Hello everyone, I tried to replace my own car battery, but by pure stupidity I tightened the bolt for the clamp too hard and it broke in half. Does anyone have an idea what I can do?

Just use a standard nut and bolt until you get the proper retaining bolt.

M6 or M8 nut and bolt will do you in the meantime [hard to judge from pic]

Remember tight is tight. Too tight is fu####

I bought an m6 bolt but the hexagonal shape of the head is too big and won’t fit. I will search for some other bolts.

No thats fine it will not fit within the recess. It will sit proud. Couple of washers on it to stop it falling into the recess then job's a good un.

It's only a clamp so will suffice

Mybe try buying N0174052 from any VW Group dealership, it is described as being M6 X 38mm, has a square head and is called a VW battery bolt.

Ebay seller in Greece sells them, but at a big price, if that number is still available, any VW Group dealership's parts department should be able to order a couple in for you, it is only a bolt, so you will need to retrieve the nut and reuse it.

Lots of people seem to head to Amazon for a slightly different design, but I can't say how well they fit.

Good Luck!
