Broke down Grrrr!

On my way to a breakfast conference this morning my ibiza decided to die on me. Lost power travelling past a wagon on the a38 heading to Burton upon Trent, luckily pulled her into a layby and rang AA for assistance. They came extremly quick and the man seemed very pleasent as always(they must pay well). Took just over an hour to find the problem, it was giving a spark and fuel was pumping so this confused the AA man alot. In the end decided to try the coil, guess what.......it was knackard £86 later my car works.

Theres a moral to this story, get nice AA man (or other breakdown service provider man/woman) to check the coil first and you wont miss Breakie

Just checked, ignition coil £34.50 Does say its not for the 2e engine though.
Going to have to give them a ring, more than 100% markup. Thats just down rite wrong

At the age these cars are now, if they stop completely, there's pretty decent odds its coil, fuel relay etc. That's why I keep a spare Coil and Fuel Relay in the boot. Bought them trying to eliminate my prob (speed sensor in the end), now they're convenient spares!

Mines a 96 so its a 2E, the 97 onwards are AGG engines. Coil mite be more expensive on mine

Its driving alot better now anyhoot, feels alot smoother and responsive

Just a query. If the coil was giving a spark, how come it was deemed to be knackered? I'm only asking as my POS won't start. Everything points to an electrical fault but there are whopping sparks at the plugs.

Sounds very annoying - but dont they always mark up so much when they fit by the road? I'm sure my mum paid double what you would normally when hers went.

Mine gave a worrying judder this afternoon; I shuddered at the thought of calling Green Don't Give a Toss Flag out. Always go with AA - turns out they really are worth 3x the money of green flag. And they are quite helpful too.

owelly- I had a good spark but it was obviously at the wrong time or something, see if you can borrow someones coil. takes 2 mins to remove it.

AA are great, glad my old man pays the membership every year

i did fit the coil off my Vento and the prob was still there. New dizzy cap fixed it though.
