Hey,

i was driving home this evening after the end of a wee trip to Dundee - when i was coming through Inverbervie 40-50mph when all of a sudden the battery light came on and i lost all power - luckily i was in a position to stop and restart (which it did no problem) but has this happened to anyone else?

It's a 56 FR Tdi - i have recently fitted a 9850i Alpine h/u but other than it's standard with 1200 miles on the clock.

Any ideas? piece of muck in the diesel is about all i can think of - blocking fuel flow (i filled the tank in Dundee on the way down from the Deen)

Any help or thoughts appreciated!!

PJ.

i'll give them a check ASAP then - just a pain in the ass that it's so dark with 20 minutes of day light per day!!!!

Thanks,

PJ.

Just noticed, that's an early post time!!!! :)

i had this on my 06 plate sport probley around the sam milage aswell lol.

just set off to a friends house when it happend (if 5mins later i would have been on the motorway!)
anyway halfway through turning a tight corner at low speed it cut out, loads of beeps and lights and the needles were bouncing.
managed to brake before i hit a parked car, started up and drove a little further up the road and checked under the bonnet, everything seemed fine. went home and got radio code and then went on the jurney again.

fine for about 3 days then i got up to go to work and it wouldnt start. lights, radio worked but when i tried to start the needles bounce up and down a bit.
checked the light thing on the battery and it was green, got the battery charger on it and tried to start the car but no luck.
took one of the leads off the battery for a few mins then put it back on, tightend it up and made sure the other was tight, it wasnt quite but i dont think the cable could have moved but after that its been fine
so either the battery connection or the system just wanted a power cut.

iv since had a bump in it and it got repaired, after that i got a vag-com and checked but no faults logged, so it either wasnt logged or skoda reset any codes

TBH i would take it straight back to a dealers, get them to check it over..

Yer it's probably a pain in the butt.. but atleast if you (god forbid) have a serious accident, cause it happens again, at least you can say that Seat was supposed to have fixed the issue...

Sounds like dodgy earthing as others have said.. can't really see how changing the head unit could have done it tho.

Yeah, i didn't think the h/u would do THAT but thought it wise to mention it, only issue with dealer is the nearest one is..........Inverness/Dundee - i may contact the service agent in Forfar though, just to be safe. I had been driving at 60mph down an A road, it just happened to be that the power cut was in a village - anywhere else then it was pitch black 'A' road miles from anywhere!! So i feel a call to the dealers would be a wise move.

Boss1986 sounds similar but i had no crazy gauge movement like you did, i'll likely check the battery leads too.

Certainly worth a call, i'll give them a shout and see what they say - i just thought it was wierd - it's that time of year when the car is only driven in the dark with the heater on a bit, lights on etc etc and i sit in traffic for 30 minutes to and from work, BUT i must stress it had been given a good run just before this in day light with no lights on etc so that should've blown away any cobwebs....
