Brembos Warping

Just wondering if anyone has had the same problem as me with their Brembo brakes?

Basically every set of genuine Brembo discs i'v had (3) have warped.

The set im on now were fine for about 500miles, first noticed it light braking off a motorway slip road, and they've progressively become worse.

I cant go for a "spirited" drive any more as they shudder the car so much...

As you guys know the discs aren't cheap and shouldn't warp like they do.

Im having to get my current discs skimmed, which is an expense I could do without really.

As far as I know im not doing anything wrong, im using new Ferodo DS2500 pads whenever I replace the discs and bed them in by the book.

My old ST kept warping discs, even after having them skimmed to make them sit true. In the end, a different garage skimmed them for me and found out that the hub itself wasn't true, and that unless the hub was fixed, it would just keep warping them forever.

Not sure if the Beeza has the same setup, but might be worth having your hubs checked. Probably cheaper than a new set of discs as well... :D

When you fit the discs to the car do you ensure that the hub face is smooth & clean?

Are your wheel bearings on the way out?

dont know about the warping, when i had brembo's i never had the standard brembo discs, i got badger5 grooved driscs, didnt get any warping with these and they did work well... possibly your answer?? i was going to say what pads you using but you used the same ones as i used to.

i know what you mean about the shudder though when on heavy breaking, i used to get a strange "groan" out of mine as well when really slamming on the stop pedal, i learnt to live with it as i really like the "look" of the brembo's and they do work, just mine were noisey...

they are good brakes, but if i was to spend that money again id save up a bit more and get a AP racing setup instead

Interesting... whenever iv fitted the discs the hubs have always been clean and iv applied fresh copper grease.

One thing is though, the little locating screw has snapped, was like that when I got the car, the rest of the screw is inside the locating hole with the head missing.
Didnt think it would make a difference.

It could be the hubs though, never thought about that, will get them checked out.

I don't think it's about them being clean, as mine were totally spotless. I guess it's something you can't really see, rather something you need the equipment to measure.

im on my third set of discs now as mine kept warping as well, changed my brakes to brembos about a year ago had brembo discs and red stuff pad had no problems with warping. Then i purchased some
ds2500s and these went through two sets of discs. So at the weekend i changed the discs and pads again as they were well warped and i hated driving the car cos wheel judder was that bad even when driving on the motorway at 70. Changed them to the discs ibizaalex was selling on here with the rust free coating and grooves with brembo pads see how i get on with these, but i still have a spongey pedal that needs to be sorted, did an abs pump bleed yesterday but no joy!!!!!!

surely badger 5 discs are the standard brembo ones with just eliptical grooves in!!!!!

Your right, just been on the eurocarparts site, hubs and bearings are relatively cheap so may replace the front ones then get the discs skimmed.

Dont suppose you know if the bearings need pressing in do you?

if you continually warp them you are overheating them... simples..
consider a different diring style or 2-piece disks which run cooler and cope better

consider a different driving style

Dont think I could do that, its my daily drive, and gets driven economically...well as much as you can during rush hour. I always use the engine when I brake aswell.
Not forgetting they warped during my daily commute the first week I had them..that was slowing down on a motorway slip road from about 70.

Since Iv owned the car Iv driven hard maybe 3 times, cant any more til I get the brakes sorted due to the severity.

The plain fact of the matter is, they just shouldnt warp like they do, there a reputable manufacturer. Ok if they were the standard ibiza brakes then I guess I wouldnt be so confused....Nobody buys Brembo brakes and expects them to warp after 500 miles of daily commuting.

I had a Fiesta Zetec S before this, I admit, nowhere near as powerful, but was running 135bhp, that saw country lanes and Oulton Park on many occasions, on standard brakes with ds2500 pads I never ever had a problem with fade or warped discs.

The discs have been changed 3 times on the cupra, and they've all done the same.. im just trying to find a solution to the problem... changing brakes to two peice or upgrading to AP's isnt an option as I just dont have the funds at present.

yours is a freak of nature, as they just dont warp like you describe, let alone repeatedly.. something else is amiss, sticking/overheating...

when you say warp, what do the disks actually look like on the surface? mottled? grey/blue spots on them or anything?

i have a warped disc on my standard cupra brakes, and as a result i am replacing the sliders...

now, i know cupra R brakes dont have sliders, but are the pistons working fully? not sticking?

The discs themselves look fine, just shiny silver.

When I replaced the discs and pads last time I spent a small fortune, Had the callipers off the car and rebuilt them, new inner piston seals / outer dust seals / new abutments... Did this due to a stuck piston.

I followed your guide on the bedding in of the DS2500s.

Its going into Awesome GTi next week, theyve told me they can skim the discs but will check everything else for me.

I have warped these disks myself on track use.. Cadwell park way back when I was 1st IHI'd - 2 x sets of brake pads and a set of disks destroyed.. no faulty parts just very heavy use

perfectly fine on the road use before hand

for them to warp after several sets you have to question their use. you would have to be very unlucky to get that many faulty disks..

Dose anyone know where to get hold of aftermarket discs for the brembos? ... eg- EBC, Black Diamond.

Cant seem to find anywere that does them.

alex, who did the rebuild? it would oly take a min to have a look at the caliper an ensure all the seals look like they are sitting properly, and would rule that out...

...i'm off to fit new discs anyhow.
