I had some grinding coming from my rear discs- so I was pumping the brakes to try to clean/ disslodge anything in there, (must have been a stone or something cause its gone now), but whilst I was doing this after pumping 3-4 times the brake pedal went hard.

Just wondered if anyone knew if ths is normal or not on the seat ibizas?

Quite normal on all cars with servo assisted brakes. What happened was you used up the vacuum in the servo quicker than the engine could build it back up again.

If you pump your brake pedal 6-8 times with the engine off you will hear a hissing noise, this is you using up the vacuum and the pedal will go hard. If you press the now hard pedal and keep your foot on it whilst you start the engine you will feel the pedal go softer again as the engine builds up some more vacuum and your servo will start working and assist your foot on the brakes again.

Thanks for your reply, I know servo assisted cars will use up the vacume if pumped, but I though 3-4 times was a bit low.:-o

Rang a dealer to ask about it, but got on to one of them know it all :censored:, you know the ones that even if they are right speak to you as though you are stupid. The ones that maked you want to drive down there and run 'em over[:@]
