Brake switch change - please help !!

Hi all,

Seem to be having a problem changing the brake switch which I know should be simple !!

Had a problem with ALL the brake lights not working. Checked the fuse and all the bulbs (only replaced them last week and seem ok) but still have a problem.

Looking on the forum, other threads seem to point at the brake switch.

Tried to change it following the guide, but this is where I find another problem.

When I connect the new switch to the electrics all 3 brake lights come on and stay on !

Then fit the switch and the brake lights are all still on ! Tried starting the car, pressing the brake pedal but no difference - the brake lights remain on contstantly.

The "pole" on the switch is now pressed all the way in (assume it's broken now?) - but I've got a spare.

Not sure if Im doing something wrong or if there's some other problem ?!

Any suggestions ????

Its on a Mk 4 Ibiza by the way.

Many thanks.

Robb.

Just spent the last 2 hours looking at more brake switch posts....

Some saying the brake pedal should be depressed before fitting the switch then release it slowly back - then twist to lock in place.

Also found a 2nd guide that says connect the wires AFTER fitting.

Can anyone confirm if these are the correct ways - Im half assuming that they must be since Im doing it the opposite way round and it's going wrong!

Cheers

When my switch failed (and it has done a few times) my brake lights were either on all the time or never on.

The vortex thread linked below tells you how to change it without breaking it.

Hope that helps
