hi guys need to change my discs on the front of my 2000 seat 1.8 20v turbo sport
and was wondering if i could use the 288mm discs
as when i went to the garage today to buy them he said they were 288mm in the book
but when i ran a tape measure over them they are 312mm that are on there now
so im wondering if the 288mm will go on or will i have to put the 312mm back on
and will the pads fir either
cheers guys

nope, use 312mm mate....

use pads to fit the 312mm aswell no sense downgrading as performance will drop with smaller discs.

cheers

earlier 20vt had 288mm and the fr tdis, later cupras 312mm cupra r 323mm

thats what i mean in the book it says 288mm but on the car it has 312mm
has someone upgraded them to 312mm or is that what they are supposed to be

if they were upgraded then the calipers would have been aswell.

maybe it was the 20v non turbo that had 288s, but im sure earlier cupras should have had 288mm.

wouldnt worry about it mate, most people upgrade to 312mm to gain better braking.

The calipers are the same if you have 288mm or 312mm therefore the pads are the same. If the car has been upgraded I'd stick with the 312mm discs and then just use a good set of pads and discs. Besides you would need to change the carriers. I believe could be wrong that the earlier cars may have had the larger brakes and the later ones downgraded as a cost saving without much noticeable effect to the normal driver.

mines not a cupra m8 its a 1.8 20v turbo sport
would that make a difference?

mines a cupra jan 01. mine had 312mm from new. the badging and general changes around that time were sporadic dependent on the parts bin. it may have come with 312s orignally.

whatever.... main thing is you have the better discs so stick with them.

do you know what engine code you have? first 3 letters?

Mines 2001 1.8 20v turbo sport and it's always had 312mm discs (I've owned it from 20k miles).

Got a full set of badges, Cupra, 20vt etc.

I have a 2000 xreg 20vt cupra. It has 312mm disks. Apparantly the sporta nd cupra thingy also had something to do with dealer badging? mine says 1.8 20vt and cupra on it!
I wouldnt dream of going to a small disk, if it has 312mm its because it wants a 312mm disk!
