Brake pedal noise

Recently had my front pads changed and now when braking I can hear something like air escaping when applying the brake pedal - when the noise stops the brakes bite in well, but the travel to that point is not insignificant. Basically the brakes don't really work until I've gone some way down the length of the pedal.

Have I just got air in the system or does it sound more serious than that? You can only hear the noise when I've turned the stereo off etc, but it's there nevertheless. Any ideas?

if you bleed the system make sure you dont get brake fluid on the calipers as you dont want the lacquer coming off them!!! like the stealers did to mine!!!![:@] :censored:

not sure how you'll have got air in the system by changing the brake pads..how long ago did you change them, are they fully bedded in yet?

Changed them about 1k miles ago - I did take the lid off the reservoir when changing them as it was full (fluid had been changed about a month ago when pads were worn). Could that do it?

did you take the fluid back down to the mx mark after changing the pads?

and i still wouldnt have thought you'd have got air inthe system, ive never done this and ive changed a million sets of pads!

I've just been out and syphoned out a bit more fluid from the reservoir, had a short drive afterwards and things have improved somewhat.

I can't see where the max mark is on the reservoir though - different to the one in the book too.
