Brake pedal going stiff and pulling to left

I have a mk4 1.9tdi pd130 and recently have fitted some brembo 4 pot calipers with brand new pads and discs. I bled them fine and they worked great at first but now (with the engine running if you pump the brake pedal about 4-5 times the pedal goes very stiff as if the engine was off.
Also the car seems to be pulling to the left more, however I did fit 17" alloys to fit over the brakes as my old 16" wheels were to small.
Any ideas? Thanks

If you pump brakes fast you will drain the vacuum reservoir and hence servo runs out of vacuum to operate on and your pedal goes hard. Compare it to pedal without engine and it will be the same as you run out of vacuum and pedal goes hard.

Jack up wheels and spin them.. they should spin equally for each axle and should not drag unduly; at the front you will feel the gearbox dragging so it will be worse. The AP calipers tend to corrode under the stainless steel plates that the pads run on - this tends to hold the pads on. Also I would lubricate under the rubber dust boots with rubber grease and work all the pistons as the grease dries out after 3-4 years.
