HI
I think that could be a low brake fluid. That happened to mine and the ended up been a leak in the brake line.

Mine is exactly the same.
2001 mk2 toledo. Changed the pads, 1 week later the light came on. I checked the fluid level - it's ok. Dodgy sensor in the pad?

Any ideas?

I believe brake pad sensors work on an open circuit, so connecting the two wires should get rid of the warning. The brake fluid warning light should be a different one, as that is an MOT failure if it doesn't light when the ignition is turned on.

I have the same problem after Sh*ifit installed new front brake pads on my P plate Tolly. I topped up the brake fluid and the light went out. Seems fine now
