Brake Lights Stuck on

Could anyone help with an explanation as to why the rear lights on a mates Cupra would be stuck on.

He came out his house this morning and his rear lights were on. Only the rears and had killed his battery?

Electrical fault? He just had a new alternator fitted 2 weeks ago.

Check the brake switch on the brake pedal.

I titled this incorrectly. It was in fact the tail lights, not the brake lights
