Brake light not working

Looking for suggestions here people:

The left near-side brake light on my 57 plate Leon 1.9TDi is not working. There is an orange bulb illuminated on the dashboard.

The bulb looked fine but I replaced it anyway and it still does not work.

I've looked through every post I can find on here regarding brake lights but only seem able to find info relevant to Mark 1 Leons.

I thought the obvious next step would be to check the fuse, however all posts seem to imply that the brake lights are all wired through the same fuse on the Mark 1 Leon - can anyone confirm if this is still the same with the Mark 2? (why would they all go through the same fuse - would that not be a bit dangerous?)

If it is a separate fuse does anyone have a link to the location of the fuse? (I found two posts which may have helped but the images in the post no longer exist)

If it is the same fuse does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should try next?

p.s. I think the fault may have been intermittent for the first 2 days it happened

I know it sounds simple, but have you tried another bulb?

One of my brake lamps blew the other day, took it out (it looked new) I replaced it with another which lasted 30 seconds down the road. Again removed the lamp, looked just as good as when i put it in.

Tried another, which is working to this day. Just because a lamp looks good, doesn't mean to say it is.

thanks all for the suggestions.

it was only with the ignition and handbrake on that I actually saw for myself which light was out and realised i'd been swapping out the working tail light.

i'm just glad i didn't end up taking it to a dealer...
