Brake fluid problem? (MK3 Cupra)

Hi folks,

For the last month or so I've noticed occasionally when I start the car up the (!) handbrake light flashes and beeps 3 times or so.

I also noticed it once when I was idling on a hill just using the brakes and not handbrake.

It only happens every so often, but I believe the (!) light also doubles up as a sensor for brake fluid level.

So today, I went to check the level, I undid the cap and I could see the fluid still...

I had some Castrol Response DOT 4 brake fluid already from a while back, so I topped it up with that but what I noticed is;

When I poured some in, it rose, but then went back to the same level as before?! Is this normal!

I topped a bit more, and left it.

I didnt want to overfill as my car is parked on a slight forward slope and I can't get it on level ground at the moment due to neighbours inability to park without taking up 2 spaces (!!!)

So really the questions are;

1) Is it normal for the fluid to rise, then drop? Or is this indicating a leak somewhere? ( I couldnt see it dripping)

2) Is it ok to use that Castrol Response DOT 4 to top it up or have I contaminated the existing fluid and need to change? I dont want to play about in this ICY weather obviously...

3) I HAVE had the servo pipe changed before anyone asks, as I did think that could have been the problem.

Any ideas folks?
Thanks in advance for any help,

Sean

a fella on here had a leak froma caliper a while ago (andyg_don) wat the cause was , a bleed nipple not properly seated before it was tightened ao as he pushed the pedal it leaked ,

if the fluid rises then falls then yes sounds like a leak

It has been making a grinding noise from the front left brake for a while, but as the standard brakes make noise anyway it was hard to notice it being different.

I was gonna order brand new discs and pads all round, as they do need changing, but if its the caliper... :(

you can get a squeak or grinding noise from disc brakes when you arent even applying the brakes if you're discs are badly worn cos the lip on the edge of the disc can catch on the pads.

if u wanted to get rid of the grinding noise then maybe try chamfering off the edge of your pads. only slightly tho.

as for the fluid problem, i'm not sure sorry :shrug:
