Brake Fading

After a bit of hard breaking. Just wondering if any has upgraded the standard brakes. I drive a 1.4 sport BTW. Would some sports brake pads make any difference over the stock seat ones? Im thinking of getting some green stuff brake pads, if that increases breaking power!

upgrade/blead the fluid first as it is cheeper
also performance pads only work well when heated up

the best brake mod is to go for 312mm disks from a TT, do a search loads of people have done this

baby disks on 1.4?
forget greenstuff.. too soft.

decent fluid like motul rbf600 which is high temp, and some decent pads, ferodo ds2500 or redstuff but better still, bigger may be your best option.

you will need fr /cupra hubs to fit 288mm set up or the tt setup i know somone who has just done this on a 100pd. hubs are 100 quid roughly a side new but you could prob fine second hand 288mm set up for virtually free as people just get rid of them

thanks for the comments lads.

I think I will change my brake fluid, and brake pads first of all and see what difference that makes. Then if Im still not satisfied I'll start looking at increasing the brake size.

Just surprised how easily the brakes started to fade TBH. Thought my brakes were fooked at first as it took my car alot longer than normal to slow down! Its not untill I inspected my brakes and foolishly touched the brake discs and scalded my fingers that fade came into my head! :cartman:

I think there should be greater awarness of brake fade for youngsters, cause kids who dont really have a clue about such things as brakes being able to fade could very well plow straight into traffic as their braking power dissapears!

Found this about the Motul RBF600 fluid.

"Motul RBF 600 has long been the standard all other racing brake fluids have been judged by. This synthetic fluid has extremely high boiling points (593 F dry and 420 F wet) which means you can brake later and harder without getting that mushy pedal. However this brake fluid is very hydroscopic and we recommend frequent bleeding to keep the brakes functioning at optimal performance. If you're looking more for a "fill and forget" brake fluid, use the Motul 5.1 Price is per bottle (3-4 bottles recommended for bleeding the brakes)."

How often would I need to bleed my brakes to keep them at optimium performance?

How much does it cost to get a garage to do it for me?
