Hey guys, been taking my gearbox off my car the last couple of days to fit a new clutch and flywheel with 72k on the clock it ain't too shabby considering its been least remapped for at least the last 25k-30k miles, finally got the box off today with my mate after a lot of fighting lol, tight as f*** on these cars.....not what you would call easy with the car 2 feet off the ground either lol.

The clutch and flywheel are now off the car this evening. I will be fitting a Helix autosport paddle clutch to take the torque with my GT28 setup. But I got a G60 flywheel off of one of the guys on here.......

I weighed the original dual mass flywheel which was 10kg and the supposed new G60 flywheel and it was 9.5kg (is that all the difference there is between dual mass and single mass?) If so where is the gain from fitting that? or does the gain of single mass purely transfer more power to the wheels as i have been told? or does 500g reduction make some difference to the characteristics?

Also: My original 1.8T clutch does'nt fit on the G60 flywheel, is that because it has to be a VR6 clutch to go on the G60 flywheel?

Any help advice is much appreciated cheers, Scott.

u need to vr6 clutch to start with as this is the match for the g60 glywheel.

the 500g will make a bit odifference but you will find it has a little to do with the dual mass to single mass as well

Ok, I ordered a 1.8T clutch like a right di*k...trying to get it sorted out just now anyway and swapped over, because i realised this when it arrived, also its a 4 puk paddle, and i want a 6 puk.

So what does dual mass actually mean? and what does it improve? I could see it was a different shape and bigger than the G60 one, but does part of a dual mass move? to make things smoother or....

I know your saying the weight does'nt have much to do with the improvement, but 500g is nothing surely.

dual mass is as the name suggests mass of flywheel + mass of rubber mounted cast iron inside it also.. its only purpose is to reduce vibrations

lightened single mass flywheel however is night and day different weight wise

So what your saying is there isn't really a advantage of fitting a single mass?

What flywheel would you recommend i use to benefit my turbo setup in that case?

Also do I need different bolts for the clutch cover if using a different flywheel? or are the original ones correct?

always use new bolts!!!!

you can get the flywheel machined to be even more lite. but thats up to you .

Yeh i could get it machined, not the question I'm asking though.

I have new flywheel bolts I know they are a MUST.

But clutch bolts?? So do I get new standard 1.8t ones or do they have to be VR6/G60 bolts?

part numbers are in here somewhere. but i would always replace for new mate, just to be on safe side. last thing you wanna do if find they have worked loose and have to do it all again.

and as for the answer about getting it machined. thats was just an idea!

but you dont want help then i wont give it.

You have been of help mate, thanks.

Just looking to find out what the advantage of fitting a G60 flywheel is over the duel mass, so far all I've found out is it will vibrate more than a duel mass.

Not going to fit the G60 flywheel if its not going to improve the drive, you know.

depending on weight

it will make going up and down the rev range quicker. i know 500g dont see much but its 500g off the crank. if you get it a bit lighter then that will be more off the crank and this will lead to a much better response out of the throttle
