Boot Lock Problems - alarm going off

The alarm on our Seat Leon 1.9 TDI Stylance started going off randomly a couple of weeks ago at all hours of the day.

Took it to a mate, whos dad is a mechanic, and we plugged into it with the computer, which revealed it had a boot lock fault, all the other parts were ok.

Did all the needful of removing all the electrical connections and checking for water ingress, but all seemed ok, Sprayed all with WD40 and replaced, but alarm still going off,

A new development is the door open light came on this morning and the interior lights are staying on,

Would all this be related to the boot lock?

The car is out of warranty (bloody typical), so i need to get fixed myself,

Is there anything i can do with the mechanism, or should i just bite the bullet and replace it???

Does your rear wiper work? If it doesnt its a good bet the boot isnt reading closed.

Failing that getting s few issues with the door control units in the window motors not signalling a door is closed.

Back Wiper works fine, and no leaking inside either,

Door control units all showed no faults on diagnostics??

Could this still be faulty if not showing a fault?

Also would pulling th efuse for the alarm disable it for the time being, or would that cause problems somewhere else

I only ask about the back wiper as that turns off when the boot is open, so if its working then your problem is elsewhere. A quick check with diagnostic equipment such as VAGCOM/VCDS will show what door is still showing open in the measured value blocks.

hi
yeah got the problem sorted. it was the driver's door control unit. £200 for something the size of a matchbox. brain in car thinks the drivers door has been unlocked and no key inserted so the alarm goes off. then this starts to mess with the central locking. took it to a stealer in the end. total bill was £400 but problem fixed!

I am having the same problems, my alarm keeps goin off at all hours of the day the doors are registering as open and the interior lights are staying on. Had to call Seat Assist out to my car over New year as the bloody alarm would not stop going off and they confirmed its the door control unit and to take it to a dealer.

Fortunately i have a full extended warranty on my car with Seat and the dealer is having it off me tomorrow to fix it, once theyve come back to me to tell me whats up then ill let you know what they say.

I had this problem back in October.... 3.5 yeaer old FR, the dealer replaced the door modules and after a few discussions did it FOC.

However.... not sure if this is related but I have hardly seen my car since! The engine started cutting out when idle, after several trip to he dealers they fixed that problem, now the engine revs when idle.... Been with the dealers for 6 weeks now and they can't seem to fix it :(

Well the dealer have had it since tuesday and despite a number of phone calls and my boyfriend having to go to the dealer they have finally told me whats wrong with it, the door control unit - NO **** SHERLOCK!!! i told them that when i handed it over!

Part on back order, wont be in until next thursday and guess what..... the dealer have given me my car bk with no way of locking the f**kin thing so now its technically uninsured!!!! Thanks a friggin bunch Bristol Seat. When i refused the car they said its either have the car back as it is or youre walking to work as they dont have a courtesy car to give me, in other words tough ****!

They told me my warranty wouldnt cover a courtesy car which is bollox as my warranty covers up to £25 a day for a hire care for up to 5 days so the dealer are talkin out of their arse!

totally dis-satisfied with their piss poor attitude, complacency and their inability to provide me with any information i have made a formal complaint about the dealer to Seat UK.

This is not the first time ive had to complain about their shoddy service and bad attitude and im sure it wont be the last until i sell the car which could be bloody soon if the dealer doesnt sort itself out friggin sharpish.

To say Seat are the bad apple of VAG would be an understatement and having had VW's and Audi's before which have provided me with **** hot service i wont be buyin a Seat again.

Shame really coz i love my car its awsome but the dealers are letting the brand and VAG down!

Its a shame your thinking of getting rid of it because of the dealer, in general the cars are normally faultless. Saying that I would prob be the same. Ive been through this before with other manufactures and my Seat dealer but lucky for me I can take it to my next local which is around 20 min drive.

Well 2 weeks on the dealer still hasnt fixed my car meaning its still unlocked its still uninsured and the part still hasnt arrived.

After kicking off with Seat UK all ive got from them is "im sorry to hear your unhappy" WTF??? unhappy would be an understatement!!

Ive been told the part "should" be in today and my response to that was it f**kin better be as im selling the car and its bein part exchanged on saturday so it HAS to get fixed!!

All i can say to fellow Seat drivers if you get this problem take it to a garage with a good rep or one that will give a **** and for those in my neck of the woods DO NOT BUY FROM BRISTOL SEAT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ive just had a call from Seat to say the part will not be in until the 21st, yet another week of an unloackable and uninsured car fookin marvelous.....

as ive well and truly had enough ive gone to trading standards about this and they have forwarded my complaint onto consumer direct to look into for me, should be getting a call from them this afternoon... this is what ive sent, happy reading lol

To whom it may concern,

I am looking to make a complaint against the Seat dealer in Bristol due to poor customer service and selling me a unroadworthy car.

I have made a complaint to the dealer directly, nothing has been done. I've complained to Seat UK who forwarded on my complaint to the dealer and still nothing has been done and I am well and truly at the end of my tether, my stress levels have gone through the roof.

I bought my car, a Seat Leon FR from Bristol Seat in October 2009 for £12000, I was offered a life shine on my car to protect the paint work and the sales manager advised me this would be done for free. having read through my paperwork after the purchase he had actually incorporated the life shine fee into my finance package, something I was NOT advised of. Also the tech who applied the life shine lifted the gloss lacquer off of the bonnet and fuel cap leaving them with dull flat patches. This I rectified myself by having the front end of my car resprayed. Within the first 2 months of ownership it went into the dealer approx 6 times for the same problem, the DPF wasn't functioning properly and causing the engine management light to come on. Every time it went in they would say it was fixed only to find that it wasn't and the light would come on a week or so later, highly irritating from my point of view as I was advised as soon as the light came on I couldn't drive it. On one occasion it went in for a DPF problem I was handed the car back on a Saturday, 2 days after dropping it off to them, I was about to take my mum shopping when low and behold the light came back on, I hadn't even made it 2 miles away from the dealer. I drove the car back to the dealer to which they had the car back worked on it and it was because the car had not done a regeneration (kick out all the crap from the exhaust). A week or so later the light came back on again, by this time I was really losing my rag and insisted the car stay with the dealer until it was totally fixed and that if they couldn't fix it I would be having another car from the forecourt as a replacement. On another occasion while my car was in the care of the dealer the technicians took it on a 75 mile jolly over a 2 day period using 1/4 of a tank of fuel at my expense, after a number of complaints to the dealer they eventually gave me the money back for the fuel used but that didn't sort out the matter of them wracking up my mileage.
This problem went on into the new year and it seemed like it was never going to be resolved.
My latest issue is that the door control unit has packed up, The issue was flagged up when the car was showing the doors were open when they weren't and the alarm kept going off at all times of the day and night. I have been advised by a Seat Breakdown technician this is a common fault on my model of car for 2006-2008 plates. it went into the dealer on 5th of Jan and for 3 days they held onto the car with no communication as to what was wrong with it and it was only when my boyfriend went into the dealer to find out what was wrong and what was going on that they contacted me to advise me the current situation. I had rang them on a number of occasions whilst they had the car only to be told they didn't know what was wrong. Turns out the part was on back order and that it was due in 13th of Jan. I advised I could not have the car back in an unlockable state as it would be uninsured and as I park it on a road I was worried about the risk of it being stolen. I was then advised that they wouldn't be in a position to have a courtesy car and that my only option was to have the car back. severely dis-satisfied with this I made a complaint stating that this was irresponsible of the dealer to hand the car back in such a state and if they kept hold of the car how would I get to work? the response I got was its not our responsibility to keep you mobile and that if you don't have the car back you will have to make your own way into work (in other words tough ****) I work 10 miles away from home, im not on a bus route and I need to get to landsdown every night to look after my horse so a car was essential but the dealer refused to give me one so I had no option but to take the car back. I was called on 12th Jan to tell me the part wasn't in, and it was due in on 13th. 13th came and no phone call, so I called the dealer to find out what was going on. Part had not come in, should be in 14th I was told. were now on the 14th and the part still isn't in, again they didn't call me to tell me this I had to call them. While all of this is going on I have made the decision to sell the car due to all of the issues ive had with it, im due to part exchange it this Saturday 15th with VW in Salisbury and Seat have said the part might be in Saturday morning, "MIGHT" be in! If the car is not fixed before I go to Salisbury VW will knock that off the value of my car as they would have to put it right before the sell it on which is money I CAN NOT lose.
As well as all of this my electronic wing mirrors have packed up on more than one ocassion which have had to be replaced more than once....

I am awaiting a call back from Seat to confirm the part will be in but if its not I don't know what im going to do.

I am SEVERELY unhappy with the dealer, the slack attitude of Seat and their inability to communicate with the customer or do anything to compensate for the situation I have been put in. I would like something done about this as im sure this will continue to happen to other customers as the dealer appears to not give a toss.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind Regards

Nikki

Well its the 17th and STILL the part has NOT come in, ive been told 21st and STILL i do NOT have a courtesy car. VW wont take my car off me until the Leon is fixed so ive had to delay pickin up my new car another week while this hoo haa carries on. Seat have agreed that if the part is not in by the time i pick my new car up they will sort things out with VW Salisbury so i can pick up my new car.

Trading standards/Consumer Direct have said im well within my rights to take legal action against the dealer for a partial refund.

In my letter to Trading standards i forgot to mention that water was leaking in through the speakers and the technicians had not fixed the engine cover properly after a service which bent the dipstick tube causing oil to leak all over the engine bay.........

I will be glad when the car has gone although ill be sad to see it go as its a bloody good drive!
