Boot floor a bit weedy?

Having had my mk5 for just over a month any time I go into the boot the flooring piece that covers the spare wheel seems a bit weedy. It seems to have some flappy bits of carpet round the edges too. Is that normal or does it sound damaged? I'm used to a slightly sturdier boot floor.

I seem to remember that my daughter's late 2009 Ibiza SC only had a soft mat covering the boot area, so I placed in a shaped sheet of hardboard under that mat and that worked okay. The reason that I had that sheet of hardboard cut to fit that area was - I bought a Ford Escort maybe one of the first front wheel drive ones back in 198? and was shocked to find that its boat mat was soft, so I bought a sheet of hardboard and made a stiffener up - and that was used for my next few cars, and then in my wife's few Ford Fiesta before it found a home in that late 2009 Ibiza, as that Ibiza SC was sold for a new Leon Cupra, I now seem to have got that stiffener back, but all our cars already have stiffened boot mats already.

I checked and it looks like a genuine part. It's a bit of a wood and some carpet. I'm also sure it's the source of an annoying squeak when going over bumps as it's a poor fit.

@RUM4MO are you the only person on here? It's a bit busier on ASN. :)

Site traffic seems to come and go on some of these forums probably no real explanation for these trends - I've always tried to post in to help others even although I currently do not now have one of these cars.
The circular piece of hardboard really did sort out that late 2009 Ibiza and all the earlier cars I fitted into to - though that late 2009 Ibiza did not have any stiffening material under the boot mat. A pity the proper fix to make that mat stiffer has turned out to be a failure, my hardboard - which looks to be the same material that is under your mat, only completely covered the spare wheel area and kept the boot floor flat without any creaking etc,

Edit:- a possible fix might be to fit some padding strips round the area directly above the step at the edge of the spare wheel well?

Bought a 'Gledring' boot mat/tray which has a raised lip all round for our 2015 FR Black from a seller called NP Autoparts on that well known internet auction site. Cost £36.99 with free carriage. Also bought what is called a 'doggymat' which cost £14.44 from the same seller which fits to the boot mat using similar fixings to the floor mats and folds out over the back bumper to protect the paintwork from scratches (when SWMBO lifts those heavy shopping bags in!).
