Boot adjustment

Has anyone had issues with their boot not feeling like it's closed tight? I'm getting what can only be described as a ticking sound when I go over a sharp bump in the road at speed. It sounds like the hatch may have a bit of play in.

I've done the rear seat catch trick and greased the boot latch and striker and checked everything in the wheel well and all looks ok. I've even moved the stoppers but can't seem to get rid of it.

Any suggestions what else I could try?

It all seems to be. I might try padding it out and wrapping the jack etc see if that helps. It sounds like the hatch but then again, sounds often throw themselves around. I've learnt that over the years.

Failing that just turn the volume knob to the right:D

Try trapping a tea towel in the boot , if noise goes or alters then it is your boot catch.either that or find a willing friend who will get in the boot while you drive round..... ;)

Take everything possible out of your boot, fold the seats down and go for a drive. If it dissappears then it's an item in there, if not atleast you might be able to locate it a bit better.

Also what's the rear seat catch trick? I had a problem with mine but I played with it and it has gone.

I think it was the tailgate itself, adjusted the stoppers and it's a bit better.

The rear seat trick is you fold down the seat and add either electrical tape to the striker latch or anti rattle foam as it means the seat catch isn't rattling on metal. I've done it to all my cars whether Seat or not and its great.

I hadn't done the "Insulting Tape" trick with my Leon but did it last night. The difference is huge on bumpy roads! Thanks for your reminder.

I think part of my problem is the rear headrests too. Tried earlier with them at their lowest setting and it improved. Too early to say but it's sounding good

Did you have any luck with this? It seems I now have the exact same rattle

Not really. I've made sure the boot stops are the same length and put insulating tape on the rear seat catches plus I've greased the latch and it's improved ever so slightly but it's still there. It's more like a ticking sound when you go over a sharp bump in the road. I'm now wondering if it's something in the boot lid itself that's come loose.

Mines exactly the same - I just ripped the boot lid trim out and taped up the clips and connections, I had a good play with everything else and put some deadening matts in whilst i was there. The noise has gone for now, but lime everytime I try to tackle it it reappears a couple of days later.

It's one of those things that is annoying but doesn't bother me enough to take it in for that on its own, it can probably wait for the service next year.

I've just adjusted the stopper at one side a little as it looked like the boot was out too far at one side so we'll see. Trial and error means we'll figure it out in the end.

You know what, whisper it quietly but I think I might have :).

Here's a couple of pics so you can see what I did.

So like I said I wrapped every joining part and clip in red insulating tape, taped up a couple of wires and just generally made sure everything was secure. I added a couple of bits of sound deadening most of which went on the inner skin and can't be seen here.
I believe the noise stems from the little metal clips within the boot lid that the plastic panel clips into

Cheers mate. With all that in the lid you can see why it might rattle. My next step was to put insulating tape round the catch but I'll have a go when I get some time. Will try the catch in the interim.
On the plus side I solved th creaking doors by waxing the inner door frame so that's one less noise.
