boosting problem

hi , ive just bought a ibiza cupra , photeks old one , and adam k s old one so ive been told , when the car comes on boost it goes upto over a bar then drops to 0.5 bar within seconds , the car has got a print out for 217-219 bhp , but it feels more like 160-180bhp , any one had this problem

that should be boosting much higher then, leak in the piping is the most likely cause and easiest thing to diagnose without the use of vagcom.

if you have access to vagcom however you can log actual vs requested boost pressure and this will clear a few things up

theres no specific cause for loss of boost, so looking for a leak is the easiest thing to start with.

ok but scanning for fault codes only helps if theres fault codes to be read..... and unfortunately not every issue will flag up a fault code. thats why logging is a very helpful tool. logging boost allows you to see what the map is requesting and what the car is actually producing.

logging maf airflow for example would confirm whether the maf is still fecked or not. although unplugging it is another method

still a leak from a split or disconnected hose is very possible or a leaky dv for example

if you dont have immediate access to vagcom, checking for leaks can be as simple as listening to the engine while its running and locating any hissing on idle or whooshing on throttle. any vac hoses on top of the engine could be causing one.

but like i said it could be something else...try unplugging the maf and seeing if its any different.
