Boost spike or not to boost spike? That is the question.

Out of interest, I'm wondering if it's better to allow small boost spikes or iron them out completely. I've seen many boost spike videos on youtube and heard people say "yeah, it spike to X bar and then settles down to Y bar".

Is it better to allow the spike knowing that the turbo is spooling as quickly as possible, or not? I've set mine to have no spike at all at the moment.

When I first had my GTRS Eliminator running, I had a huge boost spike before it settled down.

When the ECU sees the spike - high boost levels, cylinder temps building quickly, CFs starting, it'll pull back to get things under control. It has to recover before it gets on with it.

(Once I got the spike under control, performance after that point up the range was greatly improved.)

I'd therefore say, boost spike bad. A smooth curve is ideal.

depends what you mean by spike most small turbo's are unable to hold a decent amount of boost at redline so midrange boost is increase to provide better midrange and torque

With my setup I can set tune the spike to whatever I want or dial it out completely.

I've seen videos with a small 1-2 psi spike that then settles down as revs increase. No spikes and full boost to redline with mine at the moment, just wondering if spikes are intended with some tuners and if they are beneficial?

I would try to avoid getting the boost to spike, get it set-up with a nice smooth boost curve.
