Just been doing some logging with vag-com on my Passat, to see what state of health it's in.

Anyway, I logged some runs up a biggish hill flat-out in 3rd gear from 2000-4300 rpm.

At 2000 rpm boost is 1.35 bar, which it holds till around 4000 rpm, then it starts to drop off down to 1.22 bar at 4300 rpm.

Does that sound about right for a standard 130, or is the boost a little low ? I can't remember what the stock figure should be.

Also, throughout the range where boost is maintained at 1.35 bar, the MAF reading is around 1050-1100mg/R. That sounds healthy doesn't it ?

There is an old thread that I started about PD130 boost pressures, but read through it and don't think anyone actually mentioned what it was.

Muddy -- bloody hell! Didn't take you long to roll your sleeves up and start on the remap trail ;):D:D:D

One tip I picked up from a VAG dealer, it may be worth checking (and possibly replacing) the elbow hose from the top of the intercooler to the plastic inlet pipe that runs round the block.

Over time these can get soft and collapse under boost. Also the clips that retain the pipe too.

pressure seems fine but don't you need to clear out the egr / manifold and drain the intercooler before you go any further? did you find the heater plugs/ cheers Nic ps Carlo what's Italian for manyana, I thinkl it's "directly" in Devon which is even slower!!!

Nic : One step at a time, haven't even got round to taking the engine cover off yet

Craig: Thanks for the tip, I'll have a look. Did you know that Haynes now have a manual for the 00-05 Passat range ? I've just ordered one direct from the Haynes website. Not sure when the remap will happen, gotta sort the tyres & probably get some decent shocks on it first. But Simon Coe from Upsolute has quoted £295 all in, so it's very tempting :)

Interesting about the Haynes, might have to get one :)

Upsolute for £295 -- does that include VAT as well? Bloody good deal ... I've just arranged to hang onto mine for another 18 months, and it's out of warranty ......... ;)
