Hi, i just fitted a boost guage to my car as i wanted to see what pressure it was running at after remap, i was told to expect around 1.7psi, anyway i fitted the guage (as shown in pic below) and the needle wobbles/vibrates loads?
does anyone know why this is? have i fitted it to the wrong place?

When i put my foot down the boost pressue sometimes goes in excess of 2bar...like to the 6o'clock position (imagining that 2psi is at around 4:30ish) but it seems to do it when the clutch is slipping, does anyone think that this is a correct readout and has somthing to do with the clutch and is there anyway i can stop the vibrating needle?

Cheers.

Might not be much help but I've read somewhere that fitting a small fuel filter between the gauge and where you've tapped in to to get the boost reading, reduces the buzzing noise gauges sometimes make. Maybe this'll help you with the spikes and settle the vibrations?

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread as I've got a gauge I'll be fitting as soon as the pillar mount turns up and I'm interested how you get on.;)

mine vibrates like a b1tch and the needle shoots up dead high aswell

awesome gti have a device on their website that reduces vibration but your gauge is fitted the same way as mine and the device is unfortunatley not compatible with the way we've fitted it as its a t-piece that they give you. wheresas weve just put a straight bit of pipe into the pipe from the intercooler

at least from what i can see its not compatible.

i may be wrong

im sure the guy from awesome would be able to clear it up for us:D

Usually it is cheap gauges that vibrate, i always get electronic gauges as you don`t get this problem plus they are far more accurate. As mentioned you can put a small filter in the pipe leading to the gauge or just a reducer sorts it sometimes.

Cool sounds interesting, where can you get these filters from? how do digital ones work, do you have a link for them? may just replace it, specially if it looks better as well :)

the filter would have to be restrictive to do any good, you need a restrictor, either put a small screw into the white pipe (not too tight- you want it to leak a little) ot get a slug of pastic rod or similar which is a tight fit and drill a 1/2 -1mm hole thro' it

What's that brass connector you've used? I've just been to Hellfrauds and a local motorfactors and asked for a brake bleed nipple and they were clueless as to what one of them was...
