boost gauge oopsie..

I fitted a boost gauge today on my mk4 ibiza tdi (pd100), but I think ive been reading guides on fitting them to petrol turbo engines, not knowing that diesels would be different I never thought any different..

Ive cut into my vacuum hose that goes to the manifold from the black box (what is that anyway?) and used the provided t-peice to create a juntion.. my boost gauge (which also shows vac) is showing a vacuum, but even at top speed never reaches 0bar on the dial (which at first lead me to think id chosen the wrong vacuum hose to use)...

After some reading it seems people with diesels are tapping into the intercooler pipework, before the egr valve.. is that the only way to get this to work on a diesel, or will i find another of the vacuum pipes more successful for recording boost?

cheers.

As above. :) Most diesel boost gauge kits come with a fitting kit to tap into the intercooler pipework

Don't tell me you have a gauge for a petrol as well? What's the maximum PSI/bar reading on it. You need a gauge that reads up to around 25+ psi / 2 bar for a diesel, especially a tuned one.

One more suited to petrol

One with bigger scale, better for a derv! (no need for a vacuum though, as dervs don't run one... ever!) For info, 15 PSI is just a smidge over 1 bar.

Yeh gauge goes up to 2 bar so it hopefully should cover it.

Gonna have to buy a tap for pipe then and also a join for the split one!

Never a straight forward job :/

I would love a boost Gauge in my Octavia just so I could keep an eye on things, can anyone point me in the direction of a full kit for reasonable money? Is it hard to fit?

Not easy to fit. Demon Tweeks do complete kits but not cheap. I ended up getting mine off Ebay 2nd hand, and just fitted it using an Allard racepipe which came with a tap incorporated in the pipework.
