hello everyone again! so i was wondering the other day about this...

BMC CDA vs CARBONIO intakes

wich one has the better sound?

wich one is the performer?

the guys runing carbonio arent afraid of getting hydrolocked or the pipe doesnt go that deep?

Having had both in my old Leon i'd say that neither did anything noticeable to performance (some people claim they improve throttle response and stuff but i never noticed  ).

The BMC looks better under the bonnet but is fairly quiet.

The Carbonio is very noisy but the filter gets very dirty and IMO is a pain to remove and refit for cleaning.

I started off with the Carbonio but ditched it 'cos is got bored of the noise and wrestling with the filter to clean it. The BMC filter probably takes just as long to remove from it's case but at least you get less scraped knuckles.

The way i installed them, both were equally susceptible to sucking in water as i ran the cold air feed for the BMC to exactly the same place as the filter sat for the Carbonio. Then again i never drove through more than 2" of water so it didn't bother me.

so i guess you are still running on the bmc CDA?

how's the noise? is it any good? some say the diverter sound awfull i just want to make the best decision since i dont want to get bored with sound

maybe a cound clip when possible? ;)

how often did you had to clean the filter in the carbonio?

i said old leon ;)

All a bit subjective really, the noise from the BMC CDA was loads quiter than than the Carbonio but still louder than the OE Airbox.

What do you want a filter for?

For Bling i'd go for the BMC CDA (unless you want shiny, in which case go for a Dynatwist).

If you want to emulate the old RS Turbo dump valve sound then go for the Carbonio.

If you just want as much unrestricted (within reason) cold air to enter your turbo as possible then stick a green panel filter with an 80mm airfeed in your car.

Fitting these CAI's is a bit of a culture on this forum. On other forums people will swear blind that the OE airbox/paper filter in unrestrictive upto nearly 300bhp. I must admit that my own logging of mass air flow never showed any improvement from any of the 3 options listed above (yes, i've wasted £100's trying them all).

I still have the carbonio - its good :)
As said a little bit of a pain to clean the filter, but luckily i've got the knack and can take it off in less than 10mins, and replace in about 15mins now :)

i'd agree with pabs i love mine and is easy to clean as long as you point the jubilee clip towards the back so you can get to it its easy!!

when i clean mine, i can reach and remove it from underneath the car, and down passed the horn. I did need to remove some of the screws from the wheel arch lining, just to get my hand in and move the horn slightly.

The CARBONIO does NOT fit the LCR. The LCR has TWIN SMIC's, one on either side. This means you CANNOT have a CAI.

Therefore you'll have to get the BMC-CDA.

aaaaaaaaah i understand now! Cheers mate. I had a cupra 180 you see and had a cai on that i did not realise my LCR has 2 intercoolers! Ive heard that the bmc is not that loud? TBH im after the grrrr as oppose to the performance!

I'd say BMC is as loud as carbonio. Not much in it TBH - Carbonio might be a bit louder due to allowing air to echo down the pipe, but I think the difference is minimal.

If I had the choice again, I'd go BMC.

For sound you want an open cone but you might suffer in the summer due to the car sucking in hot air from the engine compartment.
I think the best comprimise for you would be an open cone with a heat shield (neuspeed p-flow by awesome or i think jabba do one are names i can give off hand but with no research), then run a bit of 80dia hose from the front to it to give it access to cold air.

Wak tested the p-flow a fair while back, seemed ok. http://www.wak-tt.com/mods/inductiontests/inductiontests.htm

Honestly the BMC is loads quieter than the Carbonio.

When i swapped from the Carbonio to BMC people who sat in my car said 'i thought you had a dump valve?'.

neilc- isn't the neuspeed p-flow an k&n filter? Its just heard that vag's do not like the oil that comes on the filter the MAF cant take it???

Funk knows, did you not spot the "no research" bit? :p
I'd probably lean toward the jabba one anyway as i seem to remember it being twice the size. I think songman had one so you might find pics there.
I thought the ram-air was supposed to be the loudest enclosed? Cheapest too but looks it IMO (flame suit on).
