Bluetooth powered by the cigarette socket

Evening guys,

I have used the search function but can't find an answer - apologies if this is a common question and I haven't found what I need by searching.

I have bought a bluetooth FM receiver that plugs into the cigarette socket which powers it.

I use this to play music from my apple phone on the car stereo (standard).

It works ok, but there are connectivity issues.

When you turn the engine off, the device turns off. When you start the car back up the device is supposed to automatically connect back to the phone, and resume playing the music where it last stopped.

When you start the car back up, the device powers on ok, but will not connect back with the phone.

I either have to unplug and plug the device back in, or manually connect the bluetooth from the phone settings.

Just wondering if anybody else has experienced this and if they found a solution?

Sounds more like an issue with your phone / adapter than the car. I've just bought this one and it seems to be working well. Amazon will let you send it back with free postage if you tell them it's not working right. Maybe try a different brand.

Thanks for the reply! I'll have a try with another adaptor, that's the best and cheapest place to start - cheers.

You're not using that adaptor in a MK1 are you? What phone are you using with it?

Thanks again squire.

I think most of these cheap Bluetooth/FM devices are going to be a pain or just a plain distraction to use. Knew someone who had one, but he gave up on it after a few months.

If you're using it to stream music it'll be working hard and you're likely to get dropouts and connection problems. Would be better to buy a single din stereo with Bluetooth or an AUX jack to cut out the extra connection. Even better get one with USB/SD and just play music off that.

I fitted a Sony stereo when I bought my Mk1 Leon in 2006. It has an AUX jack so did try using that with my phone but still found it a PITA. It'll play MP3 CDs so I put over 100 songs on a CDR and just leave the thing on shuffle. Starts playing when I get in the car and I don't have to think about it.

The one I am using is a Xiaomi adaptor, they make good quality gear, although there is an issue here!

That's not the case here, this one works great! If I was just to plug it in when I want to use it and unplug it when I'm done there would be no issues at all, in either streaming, quality, connection, nothing!

The issue arises when you leave the adaptor plugged in whilst not in use. You come back to the car, turn the engine on, the adaptor powers up, but it won't then automatically connect via bluetooth. You either have to connect manually, or just unplug and plug back in. That's obviously not great for the socket in the long run.

Good suggestion though mate and thank you for taking the time to give me your thoughts. The problem is that I hardly use the car. 3K miles a year. I just want a cheap easy way to automatically stream the music from my phone. I have bought the adaptor that the chap above suggested, hopefully it's just a unit specific bluetooth issue!

It's a prefacelift mk2 (2006). With an android phone (Moto G4). Used it for a 2 hour journey today and had no issues with it.
