Bluefin doesnt seem to make any difference

I have a 2007 Leon FR TDI. I've had the car for just under a year and still love driving it it but wanted more so plumped for a Bluefin. I was impressed with the writeup on it and expected good things.

So yesterday my Bluefin arrives, i keenly go outside and download my standard map and upload it to Superchips for modification. 20 mins later i get a text saying my new map is ready so i plug it in to my pc and then go and upload it to my car. The new map is sucessfully uploaded to my ECU so all thats left is to take it for a spin.

This is when i became disappointed. I didnt not really notice a lot of difference apart from the fact it spins more in second (what good's that do for me) The car was noticably smoother in lower gears and pulling away in traffic seemed easier but when i pressed the loud pedal it didnt really seem to impress me. I mean i know it's only another 27bhp but i expected 77nm of torque to feel, well faster in a word.

I called Superchips today and they told me that they have mapped loads of these and not many complain. He also said that they had to throttle the settings back a bit as DPF's were catching fire which is understandable. I called Torque of the Devil in Uxbridge who informed me that it should be a big noticeable difference. Superchips asked me to go up to their HQ and put in on it on their dyno. It's not very near to me though and Torque of the Devil wanted £50 per run (one without the map and one with)

I don't know what to do, i feel really robbed of over £400.

Has anyone else had this feeling?

Rolling road is the only way you'll 'prove' it, as there may be an underlying issue. Surely the difference is in gear acceleration - get on a motorway and give it some beans and the difference should be apparent.

Ive got it booked in at Torque of the Devil for a dyno run. It does pull quicker now just not as aggresively as i would have been led to believe.

What issues might you be talk ing about mate

The Bluefin isn't that aggressive a map.. I've got it on mine and its putting out 200BHP in total. The main thing is it makes the power curve seem smoother and it seems to last longer in each gear before running out of steam. Maybe give Revo a try if you want something a bit more aggressive?

i had a bluefin on my FR TDI 170, wasnt that impress compared to the map i have now from a local tuner and it feels a hell of a lot faster than the bluefin ever did, and this map was cheaper

Also bluefin broke my ECU, wouldnt write original map back on so ended up a very expensive paper weight!! Had to have ECU replaced (only my views)

Been running this map for over 2 months and no problems, dpf is fine and no lights or errors.

by the sounds of things the bluefin was doing its job fine but as the others mentioned what you truely wanted was an agressive map such as Revo or APR that maps more on the ECU than the bluefin, get your money back im sure you can as your not happy about it and spend the extra with another company thats suited for you.

yeah - its not as impressive as you think its going to be ..... BUT - being able to have power all the way to the red line and into it, rather than the power stopping just after 4,000 and no power at all by the red line - makes the whole remap so worth it IMHO.

Well after speaking to Superchips on the phone i have booked in with them to get my car on the dyno at their HQ. I will say one thing about those guys, they are really friendly and helpful.

Ive been ill for a few days and went out today and i can definately feel the difference now. It is more responsive in all gears and Tam you are right it does have a wider rev range now. I still have not taken it on the motorway yet so i guess it will give me a good idea.

I'm in two minds now as whether to get my money back or whether to try a REVO map. To be honest im kinda thinking i want more reliabilty then my DPF light coming on all the time.

Does it take for the map to settle and get used to your style of driving?

I called AmD Technik today about their maps and i was told that Superchips maps aren't best suited to the diesel engines but are awesome on Fords apparently.

Does anyone have a map from AmD for the TDI?

I've booked in for Friday so going to get my money back on the Bluefin.

Flash it back to standard and see if it feels slower.

Don't forget that some of the FR TDI's make almost 200 in stock form so your 27BHP may only be 15 or so.

Good point i will re flash later on and see if it feels any different. I can feel it has more urgency for sure just was expecting more i guess.

I read on Briskoda forums that if you say you are not happy with your map and are thinking of returning then they will offer a couple of new maps to try so that might be worth checking out.

One guy on there had 3 maps for his fabia vRS before he was happy.

Im interested in this thread as i was thinking about going for the bluefin for my fr tdi, as i have an old unit from my other car. Just wondering if im better spending the same money on a custom remap from a local tuner.

Well i called Superchips up yesterday saying i wanted to get my money back under the 7 day guarantee. I was then asked if i could come up to their HQ where they will put the car on the dyno to see what it's kicking out and if there are any problems.

I told them i was not overly impressed with my map, the reply was that sometimes a car does not take to certain maps that well.

He said that after putting it on the road and having the car in person they could tweak it more than just sending the map through for you to to put it on at home.

They would take it out for a road test and check smoke levels and driveability etc then tweak again if need be.

Im inclined to give them a shot before i go elsewhere.

I will post to let you know how i get on and try and post some figures.

I have to say that from my experience and remarks on other forums Superchips do offer a good service.

My car is definately quicker but like they said you really need to put the car on the rolling road so you can see what the gains are.

I am impressed with its pull in 3rd and 4th gear and it revs right round to 4,500rpm with no drop in power throughout the range.

Well im booked in to go Superchips HQ tomorrow morning so i will see how it goes.

*I was also told that AmD actually use Superchips maps and rebrand them as their own which wouldnt suprise me to be honest.

I have had 4 bluefin remaps on 2No Altea 140TDi's, my K1 (which they did a Stage 2 remap on & i went out with the tuner in my own car whilst he monitored all fuel, boost etc) now, I have had the Bluefin remapped to my Exeo 170TDi. It goes well, mid range is very lively!! Stick with them, they offer to take your car in & tune it themselves, accept it. At least if there is a problem, give them the oportunity to see whats wrong.

Well i went to Superchips HQ in Buckingham yesterday and was very impressed.

First they got my car on the rolling road and reverted it back to factory setting to see what it was kicking out standard. My car was a healthy 183bhp with the remap adding another 11bhp and 43nm of torque.

This established that the map had indeed not taken to my car as it should have done, so with a bit of tweaking and more rolling road test my car eventually reached 204bhp and an increase of 69nm. Much better than the map i was originally given.

The one thing that struck me whilst there was that Superchips could quite easily attain higher power figures, but they choose reliability over out and out power. I have to say i'd rather not have another few bhp if it means by DPF is constantly clogging up.

On the way home i noticed a big difference in power delivery, it was smooth and linear. But it was the way the engine revved all the way to 4500rpm with no drop in power that impressed me the most. In 3rd gear all the way up to 6th the car just wants to keep pulling.

I noticed whilst stuck in traffic that the car was smoother to drive in the lower gears and the fuel efficiency is still just as good if not better then before.

I am definitely converted to Bluefin and whilst some will always choose Revo or Custom etc i am really happy with my remap.

[B)]
