Blowy/Knocking sound from my exhaust!

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone can help me??

The oxygen sensor failed on me @ the end of June. After getting it replaced with my stealer, I have now noticed a blowy/knocking kind of sound from the exhaust (poss engine as well) when I start the car from cold. I sent it back to the stealer with the best description I could of the problem, but after having it for 2.5 days, they still couldn't diagnose the problem!!

There are no warning lights on the dashboard and the sound disappears once the car has warmed up slightly. I'm now at the point where the workshop manager has 'advised' me to try different routines to try and pinpoint what may be causing it.

Any ideas please??

(The car is a 1.6 Reference).

Cheers.

Hi Tell & Morton2525,

I thought it was a slightly loose exhaust at first or even a hole of somekind. However, the stealers had it for over 2 days and I would presume that it's been looked at from every angle.

I've been speaking to a couple of garages that I have contact with and they have both come up with 2 different options:

1st one said that it may be loose baffles in the exhaust or even the cat!

2nd one said that when the oxygen sensor was replaced, they may have dislodged/loosened the heat shield accidentally??

Either way, I'm putting it in for a service in the next 2 weeks with the garage who gave me the 2nd opinion. They've said that they'll take a look and if it's a warranty thing, then they will contact SEAT direct to get approval to do the work rather than me have to go back to the stealer, especially when the stealer 20k service is £190 and their service following the exact same service schedule, labour and authentic parts is £99.75!!!!

We shall wait and see with anticipation.

Did you manage to get your's fixed morton2525 or is it at the stealer still awaiting repair? Or is the last 8 weeks attributed to another problem?

Cheers both!

Exhaust

Hi guys, my car has the same problem...its going in this week for repair....my mate who runs his own garage says its probaly the two front flexi joints on the exhaust
the rough sound at ignition goes after a while.
Wont hurt the car but defo bugs me...and while under warranty best to get it done.
will let you know what the dealer says.

Hi all,

Well, had my car serviced the other day and asked the garage if they could take a little look at what may be causing my noise. Within 1 hour they were in touch with me to say that they've adjusted the heat shield, but believe it is more than likely to be a loose baffel.

So that rules out flexi joints, hole in the exhaust, failed cat, loose clip or anything else that it could be contributed to!

Funny though that the indy garage was able to identify the sound within 1 hour and have it looked at, whilst a stealer has my car for 2.5 days and can't hear it????
