for the same money I would rebuild your one and have a few modifications done while it is open.

Then you will know it will last a good while, as you will know what has been done

water went up through my filter and i snapped my inlet camshaft so probs valves knackered and might even have hair line crack in block coz got the white residue from head gasket blowing.

Well its best to check out the bloack and see if there is a hairline crack.

If not game on.

Get the head fixed and while you are at it get it gas flowed, and see if you can get some bigger valves while you are at it??

If you have buggered the cam ideal tile to get an uprated cam

Pull it and see what the damage is then make a decision if its repairable or not. Might be an easy diy job and a lot cheaper than buying a whole new lump.

Let me know if you do it tho, wouldnt mind seein some carnage. :D

If water went up through your filter and into the bores i expect you will see more damage than just a snapped camshaft.

Does the engine turn over ok?

Hydraulic lock has caused some or all of the following usually : snapped camshaft + bent valves, possible bent/ broken conrods, damaged piston crown (by the valves), damage to the crank or bearings etc.

Imho get a replacement engine or an engine builder to strip it, if it has a hairline crack (which you wont see by eye) and you put it back together it will only be a broken engine again in no time at all - a good engine builder will crack test evertyhing but a good engine rebuild will cost more than the car is worth so unless your going for big power may not be a good option.

Its a problem posted before on here - people with cupras sucking up water and breaking their engines.

Despite what people are saying, if you can get another engine i would do it. Had hydraulic lock on my old VTS and after replacing the bottom end bearing, rods getting the head skimmed etc i had spent well into getting a second hand replacement.
If you wanted it faster, by far the best time to do it but inc the cost and bad weather i had to do mine in, never again.

Retain your old turbo, sensors, gearbox etc etc just get a bare block they got for very little
