Really struggling with the car and its :censored: me off. I've basically no top end speed, really struggling to get above 60, and at lower speeds really having to work it. Could a blowing exhaust manifold cause this? At the moment I have a Powerflow jobby on, but thinking of getting rid of that.

when was it last serviced. Sounds quite possibly like a maintenance problem?

blowing exhaust manifold might cause the fuelling to be amiss, but it'll still run past 60.

yeah. that's like I said

oil change doesn't mean maintained.
car has always been maintained, was my dads beforehand and anything that needed doing was done as and when.

just looked at the manifold using a mirror and there is a crack along the bottom of it. so obviously needs replacing.

think about rotor arm, dizzy cap, plugs, leads, timing, collapsed cat / silencer

many people skip that on services

You'd ideally want a manifold off a polo with the same engine code as yours.

The cracked manifold will lose you power but like m0rk says, somthing else is ovbiously amiss.

hey spyke, i've got the same problem, since i got my stainless custom exhaust made up and put on with a decat pipe it ran ok but its progressivly got slower takes ages to build up and wont get to the same max speed i had be4 out it, mines is a 2.0 8v but might be the same problem, you think your exhaust could be a problem? did it happen about the same time maybe two weeks later?
