Bloody radio!

I'll explain my situation... in my Toledo I used a Phatbox with the Aura radio, for those that don't know the Phatbox is a hard drive sort of idea that connecs to the changer port on the standard radio, it plays MP3 WMA etc... I have a 40GB cartridge with all my music on it.

Was glad to hear that it is also compatible with the Alana radio so I wired everything up and upon removing the headunit the whole front fascia broke off, one of the 4 clips was broken... when I got it all fitted up etc the radio asked for the code, I put it in, followed instructions and got no action back from the radio at all. Even putting the wrong code in and pressing PTY nothing happens.

Right now I don't have a working radio, now I'd like to replace it with the Aura radio from the Leon but that won't fit as its too wide... I don't know if I should replace the Alana and hope it works, or do you think I should just get an aftermarket HU (better quality?).

Do any aftermarket HU's work with the standard changer? This way it would also work with the Phatbox.

Any help or opinions appreciated.

Cheers

The manuals were wrong for some Alana stereos.

Put the right code in and press all the buttons to see which one accepts the code.

I tried pressing all buttons and got nowhere.

When removing the radio - the front fascia prized off and that isn't fitting back on properly now, is this meant to happen or do you think it could be gubbed?

I can get hold of a new one for about £40 - are there any other units that would work with an OEM changer, or can you recommend a new unit?

did you press scan followed by pty after entering the code as this is the only way ive got it to accept the code on the alana

Hi Gaz,

Went out again to give it a go, when I turn Ign on I get "1000" so I put in my code (The one in the book) and pressed SCAN then PTY (Which has PROG above it) and got no response, the book mentions "SAFE" coming up I don't get that - tried using the wrong code also and got nothing either.

Ah well - theres one on eBay just now sittin fairly cheap I might fire a bid in on that cause I don't know what other models will work with a changer.

Isn't there some kind of security thing on these stereo's that you have to wait a certain amount of time before you can make 2nd, 3rd, 4th........attempts?

Could be that you need to wait a while with the ignition on before attempting to put the code in??

HoHoHo its alive again.

The front is still very loose and isn't connecting right, can anyone advise how the radio should be officially removed as it was a nightmare.

Then I can tidy all my wiring back up and hopefully get the radio fitted properly again.

Its the front fascia that broke off... I'm going to remove the headunit again and some of the glovebox and try and tidy up the wiring a bit and hopefully I can fix it properly and my Phatbox will work.

Its clipped on with those kinda L shapped connections that grip in - when I remove the unit I'll try get it fitted back on (Should go back on no problem) and hopefully get the wiring tidied up a bit and jobs a goodun.

However if it sits out a little bit I'll need to change cause it would do my head in.

normally untidy wires at the back of the headunit cause it to sit out so when you tidy them up make sure the all right out the way of the headunits path when putting it back in (sure you will anyway)
