BJX engine shares the internals with other 150-190bhp 1.8T engines.
The crankshaft and pistons won´t be a
problem.
The connecting rods are.
It isn´t the power killing these rods, torque is.
With smooth torque curve they can take around 250lb/ft (350Nm) without any problems, but there has been cases where the rods have been bent or even completely blown (<- equals a new engine) with just over 220lb/ft (300Nm) of torque. This usually happens with small turbos which are spooling up very fast and reaching their limits (i.e K03 & K04).
If you want more power and torque safely, get the rods changed.
It is cheaper to get the rods done than getting a new engine (well atleast usually)
If you still plan to push it without changing the rods, take a look at these pictures.
These were the STRONGER (20mm) rods used in 1.8T BAM (225bhp) engine.
This happened with around 300lb/ft of torque, which is usually considered safe for the stronger 20mm rods.
