Bike rack for Cupra

Hi

I'm thinking of getting a Seat Ibiza Cupra and want to be able to carry my mountain bike on it without having to stick it inside and trash the interior.

As it has a central rear exhaust I won't be able to stick a tow bar on it, and as the one I am looking at has a panoramic sunroof it won't take the roof bars, which means the only option would be a cycle carrier that you fix to the boot.

Does anyone have a cycle carrier that works on the back of the Ibiza - I have looked on line but none of those I have found say they work with the Ibiza, and because it has a small rear spoiler at the top of the boot lots of them don't seem to fit.

Any help appreciated!

Got the same problem. the only other option is a tow ball mounted one made by Pendle. And How rubbish will your Ibiza look with that. None of the current hatch mounted ones fit as they will rub the hell out of the paint work. Afraid its wheels off for the Bottle Rocket and into the Boot. We did get that in and my mates Iron Horse Hollow point 6 no problems and all the kit.:)

Thanks for the reply - I feared that might be the answer!

Did you manage to get the bikes inside only taking off the front wheels?

Yep, an 18" MTB fits inside just fine with the rear seat bottoms removed so the back folds down flat, with just the front wheel removed.

Only bugger is with hydro discs, taking the front wheel off means a right faff getting it back on afterwards.

Luckily I dont have a rear spoiler so can anyone recommend a suitable budget (£50-60 tops) bike rack that won't totally ruin the paintwork (i'll be putting cloths under the straps and hooks etc but i figure some will be better designed than others?)

I've got a Pendle rack on mine, hooks are a bit snug on the shut line at the top of the boot, but otherwise its fine no paint damage or anything - just give any area where it rests on the car a quick wipe down first.

If you want to be all legal about it, you'll need the leccy hook up and a lightboard etc, got mine done by a local place cost me £40ish and the plug sits next to the spare wheel, on about a metre of cable, so you can pull it outside the boot.

I ended up getting a roof rack and bike carriers, as there is one that fits the 3 door with panoramic roof. As I already had the bike carriers it wasn't too expensive - approx £160 I think, but definitely more than one that you'd attach to the hatchback. But it works well and is easy to fit.

Which roof rack did you go for? I had a look at my 3 door and couldn't see anyway for it to fit onto.

It was the one from the Seat dealer as it worked on the panoramic roof - I think it is similar to the Thule 750 package - it clamps between the window frame and the lip on the roof to hold it on - so it has left a bit of a mark on the paintwork as I have tried to clamp it securely. But it works well.
