Big problems!

I'm having a few problems with my car at the moment and it just seems to get worse by the day :(, so I'm hoping you knowlegable lot will be able to help me out a bit!

I'll start at the beginning.

The car is a 2001 Leon Cupra 1.8 20vt (180bhp). It has been superchiped, has a pipercross viper closed cone induction kit, a Scorpion Cat-Back exhaust system and had the head polished although this was a while ago. I have felt it hasn't been running right for a while (Seemed to be lacking power, can hunt for revs at idle sometimes mostly after its had a bit of stick and just doesnt seem to be running as smoothly as it should sometimes).

Anyway, I put it on AET turbos dyno yesterday and it produced 160bhp and 155lb/ft at the flywheel, it was also producing standard boost and running too rich. This is well down on what i was expecting but at least I definately knew something was wrong!

Andy at AET advised me that first port of call would be to speak to Superchips as he thought the chip may have been written over or was causing some other problems, other than that he also told me to have a look at the coil packs and MAF aswell.

Guy from VES superchips came out today and after a bit of head scratching and having to send a copy of the MAP back to Superchips, confirmed that it was installed and working correctly. However, he did tell me that my dump valve wasn't working! It's just the standard Bosch DV and he tested it by sticking a bit of pipe over the top small outlet at the top of the DV and sucking air through, apparently he could feel fresh air rather than it creating it Vacuum which told him it was knakered  I've got a Forge one that i'm going to try on it tomorrow but surely a simple boost leak from the dump valve can't be responsible for loosing the best part of 50bhp can it???????

He also created a new problem before he went, he had taken the airbag fuse out when he was messing about up-loading the map, when he un-plugged everything the air bag light stayed on  Tried to reset it a few times but with no sucess, it was fine though before he plugged into the car so surely it can't be a wiring fault or anything as this would have shown up before now??? Bit nervous about driving around at the moment if the airbags are not working as I do lots of miles and it doesn't take much to have an accident!

Apologies for the long post but I'm at a bit of a loss of what to do tbh as I've just been made redundant so I don't have loads of money to spend trying to fix the car and most of the stuff seems to be trial and error (Coil packs and MAF). I just want to get the car running back to its former glory again and hope someone will be abe to give me some ideas on what the problems are likely to be or what my best course of action should be. :help: :D

Thanks.

Where are you based? Looks like the guy you've had out might not be the best diagnostics fella out there

Im not expert on this i will prob be hammed by the others but i would of thought the dump valve could cause you alot of problems ifit was f**ked, i mean when i had my Split R(yea yea i know) fitted every mile or so it went into limp mode so if yours wernt making a vaccume then id suspect it would affect everything else in line ie boost pressure, again mate im not expert

Yep always replace the DV when upping the boost and as for the piperx viper , i bought one about 2 years ago and when i went for a remap the tuning company threw it away as they couldnt get enough air in and put the std air box back on ( its best suited to NA cars ).
Check all the hoses under the inlet mani as they are prone to split and loose alot of boost.

Thanks for the advice guys, I'm based in Leeds but the guy who installed the Superchip is the only local dealer so I have to stick with him for now for the warranty. To be fair, he seemed to know his stuff, he just got foxed by the airbag light.

Definately looking like it could be DV related then, I have just stripped this forge one down, cleaned it up and checked all the seals etc and it seems immaculate so i'll fit it tomorrow and see how it goes. Only problem is, I actually took the forge one off the car to replace it with the standard one as I knew some cars aren't keen on the aftermarket DV's, it made bugger all difference though..................
I'll also try to trace all the hosing back as far as I can too, to check for leaks. I just wasn't sure if a boost leak could cost so much power and make it run so badly. It seems to accelerate pretty well upto 60mph when it's opened up but it drops off quite badly around 70/80mph ish. Can't be normal as I've had 140mph out of it before (On a track before anyone pulls me up :D) and I don't remember it struggling too much to get there.

As for the Viper, I'm not a massive fan of induction kits anyway tbh and I've just used an up-rated panel filter on my other cars but I didn't get the standard airbox when I bought it so i'm stuck with it really. I'll look into changing it though if I can't get to the bottom of the other problems.

why he has to pull fuses to read code tho...

if that sort of power you are only likely in limp actuator pressure mode.

DV sounds knackered as you say, but logging MAF also, and request vs actual boost with vagcom or the like will confirm what the softwares asking for.

Thanks for the ideas. I'll make a start by swapping the DV and checking for boost leaks tmrw then will update with my findings!

I'm really looking forward to getting the car sorted and back to its best tbh as then it'll be going back on the rolling road again at some point to see what it 's really making :funk:
