Big Problem

Switched my car on friday night, drove a little way down the road. looked at my dash and saw that i had the engine management light, the EPC light and the traction control light on. car was running fine. i turned it off and started again to see if they went away but no.
carried on driving, car still running fine, then i started to lose power. the car started to run very very rough. pulled away in first gear and had no power at all, the throttle pedal did nothing but the car carried on at about 10mph.
limped it back home, plugged in my laptop to see what fault codes there were.
came up with ,

THROTTLE CONTROL VALVE ERROR.

I'm not using VAGCOM but a diagnostics programme my dad has on his laptop he uses at work.

I spoke to a guy who had the same problem on his passat and he reckon it was a dodgy connection on the sensor on the throttle pedal.

My car is a 2000X reg cupra, running stage 1 Revo and a BMC panel filter.

Anyone on here had this problem or can you shed any light?

Hope it made sence.

Thanks in advance.

had a very similer problem on a customers vectra as they use a very similer setup.
once the ecu detected the fault it put the vehicle into limp mode it would not allow me to open throttle (two miles from garage lol)anyway once i scanned the ecu it came up with same fault code every time"number 2 sensor throttle pedal"but this had already been replaced by another garage!so i managed to borrow a second hand throttle body, still the same!
only thing left was the ecu but at £500 it wanted to be the fault!it could not be tested either so i bought and coded the ecu and hes never been back since.

on that car there were three components involved, so if ya can borrow a pedal sensor to test before you buy one mate

Cheers mate. Ive just been out and had another look. when i first turn the car on it seems to run fine. it only starts to play once the engine temperature gets up. had a look under the dash and wiggled a few wires around the throttle sensor (not that i thought it would fix it lol), going to get more involved later this evening when it cools down abit outside.

had the same problem on my Tdi. Car was going in limp mode as well. After lots of checking, i found out that some rusrt was on the connection of the plugs on the ecu. Just costed around 20 pounds to fix it at the dealers here in cyprus.
