Big Bills!!!!

Have got an 03 LCR which has been in my plesure to own for the last 3 1/2 years. It's just about to go over 50k and i am thinking of changing it for a newer car. The one thing thats stopping me is i havn't had to spend much money on it so far (warrenty sorted most of that out).

Has anyone had any experience of major bills on higher milage LCR's?

Mine's an unmodified 210bhp model

On my second Leon Cupra now and not had any major problems, (touch wood), with either. Apart from the normal wear and tear issues and the odd warranty job here and there, these cars should easily cruise their way to the 100k mark without even breaking a sweat, as long as servicing is kept up to date..

The biggest bills you are now likely to face are as direct result of joining this forum...

It'll start with a fabia rear wiper but it won't be long before your getting a remap, shock, sunglasses holders and all sorts of things you never knew you wanted :)

Oddly enough mine has just had its first big bill.

Spur garage just rang me to say the 40k service was £380, they need to replace the CV covers (£275), the pads front and rear are wearing (I'll do this myself but £150 ish for the parts), the water pump bearings are going and they will do the cam belt at the same time (£350) and the two items I wanted looking at of the passenger side central locking sticking and a blown tweeter are yet to be priced. Could look at doing these last two things myself if there is an instruction on doing it here.

Great. Only done 43k on an 03 plate and now it only does 7k a year (bicycles are cheaper to run!).

It shouldn't be that expensive to run to be honest. Most parts are pretty reliable and there is a wealth of information available on here.

I would move to an independent specialist and keep on going.

Could you this just be an excuse for upgraditus?!? :p

Iv'e only been on this forum for a few days and i already feel the urge to start tinkering
A company called performance torque are offering a re-map in a January sale for £250, this appears very reasonable.

I might just have to give them a call.

My water pump went at 115,000


Overheated, and blew a hole in the (already corroded) radiator

New pump (£35), cam belt (£250~?) raditor (£100~)


... and a £350 labour bill to strip the front end down replacing the rad :(



Apart from wishbones at the last service, I've done 15k since the water pump died and it's not cost me a bean

Not had many problems in the 10k miles ive had her. On 64k now, just changed disks, pads (twice, red stuff pads are s**t), cam belt and water pump. oh and a track rod end. Wear and tare really.

Thats not bad considering its 115k in. At that stage of its life you do start to see wear and tear and so for a total of 700 odd squid for 115k of motoring is quite good in my books!

Thanks for the advice,

The Cupra R looks like a durable car, i usually keep cars till a few things start to go wrong. From the replies i have had this could be some considerable time
