If you really have to have a tuning box, then Dragon ones are good, they are digital tuning boxes and work well. There are others that also sell them under different names.

However, you may want to check out the site sponsors as well for a remap instead, generally better performance, less smoke, and plenty available :)

the car im looking at will be on a 2007 reg which will still have manufactures warranty.

if i get a remap then i will loose it when it goes in for a service. does this only apply when it goes to seat.

A remap wont be wiped as part of a service, only if there is a reason to remap the ECU should this be a problem.

The thing is, warranty is going to be voided if you use a tuning box as well..

Insurance and warranty are both impacted by anything being tweaked on the car - i.e. if you dont declare it, it is not insured.

True - however (and this *does* depend on who does your mapping), you can enable/disable the map, the Revo map can be turned on/off with a switch (costs extra though).

I'd ask about a bit with the tuners here, often you can use VAGCOM to enable/disable the map with some of them here, but it all depends on what you're looking for.

Having had a tuning box myself, I can only say that fitting and removing for every service (4x a year for me at 10k services) was just a pain in the backside for me. The box itself worked well. Since then I must admit my tuning has gone well beyond a tuning box, but it is not bad :)

i must say im well impressd with tuning boxes have one on a 1.7cdti astra have 2dragon tuning boxes 4 pd engines a merc 270cdi dragon box a spider which are ment to be the best. thats for a 2litre pd and i have a tuningbox the original ones and that one is awesome the dragons and not as wild but the tuning box on a 100bhp bora was ace i dnt see the need 4 a remap over a gd box have a look at the spider tuning box tho they are the most clever and i dare say compete very well with a remap

Mine was a Dragon one, fitted to a Fabia vRS - unfortunately I cannot remember how much it was as I am on the next car with heavy tuning now ;)

From what I remember, similar cars hit about 150-160bhp and a fair bit more torque (and some smoke).

A remap will make more out of the hardware generally, so it comes down to price for me these days.

Remapping a PD130 is now pretty easy to do, all major tuners do a map for it and the prices may be competitive.

the other thing is if you have a look the the mightyest internet auction site all mine have come from there and theres often 1 or 2 on at the same time looking at just over 100quid for a dragon or what ever else is on which i think is a gd starting place plus the prices dont change much so if in the end you fancy a map in the future sell the box you carnt loose much on it

i wonder why its not legal, maybe chucks to much sh*t out of the back.

looking at the prices, they are cheap compared to others. should that be a reason of consern. has anyone else used tuning boxes like this ?

The majority of tuning boxes only manipulate signals from the ECU to the engine and increase by x amount, they aren't typically the most efficient way of uprating your cars performance. You'd be much better off with a remap to suit your engine that you can turn on or off!

what are the best remaps that can be turned off, and what kind of price

A friend of mine had 2 Fabia VRs's, he ran a Tunit on one and had the other Superchipped. The VRs with the Tunit on was quicker but the throttle response and smoothness of the Superchips re-map was much better in my humble opinion.
