As above, have done a search but found nothing too conclusive, would really like to use good quality stuff. Can anyone recommend me specific products and quantities I will need for a 1.8 20VT FR?

OK I've been out and got some Mobil1 Fully Synthetic 0w40(I thought seeing as I'll be stage 2 soon I best shell out for good stuff), meets the relevant VW rating numbers, as non of the part synthetics I found did. Got a Halfords filter as they are made by Lucas.

I would not think that the "Lucas" name used on the filter means that its "good" - Lucas in aftermarket bits is just a "rent a name" affair, relying on old school good name that Lucas had before it was sold off in small bits. By the way, Lucas never made any oil or air filters even when it was still the original Lucas. Why use quality oil and not use a quality filter - best place for a VAG filter will be any VAG dealer or ECP etc.

I use Fuchs Titan Race Pro S 5W40. I bought it after much reading around on here, there's a really useful thread in the Opie Oils Forum. I bought my oil from them
