Becker Grand Prix 7992 - Some questions

Finally decided to get rid of the Aura (Leon mk1) and wanting something with Bluetooth phone link I think its got to be a Becker Grand Prix 7992 :)

Wonder if anyone can answer a few questions first though..

  • Fascia Adaptor - The Halford one is £15 but I've seen some on eBay for half that. BUT... the Halfords is one piece (two end bits connected by a frame) whereas the ebay ones seem to be 2 seperate end bits. Which would you advise?
  • Also... don't suppose anyone does a fascia adaptor in Aluminium effect to match the Alu effect console??
  • I read someone mentioning putting the Bluetooth mic on the visor by getting the cable under the pedals, round the dash, up the window frame etc etc. Sounds far too complicated. I was just gonna feed the cable between the fascia adaptor and the HU frame and stick it to the fascia adaptor or perhaps over the AIRBAG OFF sign. Anyone done this? Would it be an OK position for the mic?
  • Regarding the above.. how does the mic attach? Is it just sticky pad on the back?
  • Is the install an easy job? I've fitted HU's before (in a Punto) and it was a piece of pee.
  • Finally... a bit off topic.... but on a few photos of peoples HU's I've seen on here, they have a mat (webbed look) in the console tray under the ashtray behind the gearstick. Where do you get them?? I want one!!!!

Hope you can help with the above. Cheers

I am seeing that some ppl already have the becker.
i have heard a becker Indianapolis and it sounded quite nice.
To mount it you may look in becker website, it sould be easy, the harness might need tweaks.

I hava a bmw and i will replace my old becker by a new one I guess

I'm getting mine finally fitted (by an ICE specialist as i know nothing on this!) on Saturday. Not sure if i can help much yet (if at all) but:
-The specialist has a fascia and has done a number of leons so going with that - £15
- going to have a chat with them about the easiest place for the wiring of the bluetooth and see where that takes me, will keep my eye out for how the mic attaches
- they seem really confident it is a straightforward job to fit; they seem to know what they are doing and come recommended

Msousa - sound apparantly is superb, for eg do not necessarily need speaker upgrade. Will again report back when fitted and tested. Reception can be dodgy on MW but again you can have a booster fitted.

Have a search for Becker in this forum and all i read is positive reports.

i've got a mexico pro in mine. 2nd becker i've had now, had the original mexico in my previouis alfa. cannot fault them one bit, have had quite a few HU's over the years and the Becker is one of the best, much better than the alpines and clarions ive had, and about on a par with a top end JVC reference unit with regards to SQ. It's a very warm, laid back almost hi-fi sound. completely transforms the OE speakers.

fitting is easy, you need the fascia adaptor, wiring harness and amplified aerial. i think nexxia.co.uk do a complete kit but check which aerial adaptor comes included.

you wont be disappointed anyway, and the red illumination pairs perfectly with the dash.

I had a mexico pro in my skoda, they definatly have the OEM look so I thought it was perfect. quality wise cant fault the build or the sound quality/features.
