Hi all
I have 2005 1.9 Altea Diesel, i was driving it yesterday and the battery light came on
for about 4 seconds, then the headlights dipped for a few seconds then came back on :(

Strange as its been okay ever since but im sure i have not seen the last of this problem.

I checked for loose connections on the battery, fuse box and alternator, plus the earth strap on the starter motor and everything seems sucure.

Anyone have any ideas what this could be, or what it could be the start off?????

Best Regards

Aux Belt (or also reffered to as the Alternator Belt)

this connects the alternator to the engine (harnesses the motion from the engien and transfers it to the alternator, which then generates more power (electrical) by spinning an electromagnet.

I would hazard a guess that either the alternator is going, or the belt is slipping slightly.

visually look for oil near the belt, or signs of wear on the belt.

if your a technophobe, then grab a multimeter and check that the alternator is earthed of when the engine is running :)

Thanks, I did check the belt it look clean and tight.

If the belt slipped then the warning battery light would come on correct??? but i cant see why the headlights
would just go off and come back on for a slipping belt.

or would it, im not sure???.
