Hi i have recentley fitted a new Alpine headunit to my LCR along with a kenwood 1000watt amp and a pioneer sub.
I had a similar set up in my last car, everything is wired up correctly etc.
The problem i am having is when i turn the system to over half way, which is not very loud, the car speakers seem to cut out momentarily but sound still seems to be coming from my sub.
I have connected my sub to the subwoofer output of the stereo, when turned up half way the sound is not distorted at all just seems to cut out.
The set up in my last car was alot louder and i didnt have nay of these probems.
Anyone have any ideas?

So i take it the amp is powering the sub only and the speakers in the car are still just connected to the stereo (not amped). Very strange problem though. If the stereo is new then might be a dodgy setting somewhere (have to watch on some stereos cos when you accelerate the stereo volume automatically goes up and visa versa) so i would have a good look at that. My components are amped aswell as the sub and had no probs other than some interference (think its the amp dying slowly) and going to test that theory using my mates 4 channel amp on the weekend hopefully. Il ask about later to see if anyone i know has experienced anything similar to your problem mate.

yes, the only thing that is amped is the sub.
The ground is obviously ok because its the car speakers that are cutting out and not the sub!

Never had a problem like this before, its not even very loud when it cuts out!
Mite take it to an audio place its really gettin to me!

What power out put is the head unit? Some of the Alpines require a direct battery feed? I would try running a wire straight to the battery, just run it out of the window first to see if it cures the problem before routing it in the car

I have been to caraudiocentre today about this problem.

It doesnt require a direct battery feed, certain Alpine headunits do but they will come with a yellow lead.

The guy at car audio centre reckons that some car speakers have some protection device on them to stop them blowing, so if too much power is put through them they will cut out.

My stereo is 4x50w does anybody know the ratings of the speakers?

Also i read something on here about the tweeter brackets loose in the door can cause problems?

I took mine out the other day and have them in the house but havent checked the power on them (but its rubbish lol).
I know that if your runnig a sub then could really do with having decent components running of another amp. Just incase your looking to get a set, infinity tweeters fit perfectly into the hole in the front and rear doors where the standard ones are. I have infinity kappa components in the front and rear and was landed when i tried them in the doors (could have been a right nightmare to fit otherwise).
Just a bit of info for you mate and imagine that others do fit.

Right then guys just spent an hour outside, i figured out the problem!!

I ran each speaker individually at the max level and its only the rear passener that cuts out. It is cutting the rest of the speakers out because the headunit is going in to protection mode.

So i have a blown speaker, just gotta get that replaced. Gonna get a stock speaker bit broke this time of the year insurance due next week!!

Anyway thanks for your help, just thouht id update incase anyone had similar problem.
