Hello, before i start i would have to say apart from knowing what ICE i like and paying for it, i dont fit it or know anything technical! What happens is whenever the power goes to the headunit (everytime i start the car etc) the subs bang for a second! If that makes sense, then sometimes if i have it on loud the headunit (alpine 9887) turns itself off for a few seconds. Now i've been told to turn the gain down which i've done, and turn the subs bass level down on the HU and now its stopped turning itself off but still makes a noise everytime i start the car? The HU and phase linear subs are brand new, the magnat amp was a hand down...would replacing the amp make a difference? or is there something else i need to know - that i can then tell my other half to sort out :D ta, Rach.

it is a common thing to happen, its just the amp powering up off the iginition cable (from the headunit) when you start the car. My subs do it (2x12" Vibe CBR), my friends does it (Mutant X 15") and they have all been wired in by different people with a good understanding of electronics etc. you could however if its a problem or annoying or whatever, wire the headunit off the cigarette lighter which would then get rid of the bang when starting the ignition(you just need to remember to turn the headunit off as it won't be running off the ignition of the car).

Check that you have a good earth. Some amps will do this regardless though, but must have an internal feature to stop the pop when the amp first powers up.

I know the earth was good, but i will check! I think i'll get a new amp, this one is old so it might just be that!

what are you using to turn on the unit?if you use the ignition feed to the unit as your remote itll go pop.most aftermarket units with a remote output have a few second delay on them to reduce the likelihood of this,if you still find it a problem you could fit a relay with a delay?

Hey guys

Mine used to do this, and I think its something to do with your sub only being directly wired to the power. From experience mine also links to the auto aerial/remote aerial wire (or something like it) from the headunit also, so the power flows once the head unit powers. I think this adds a further control over how the sub works? Might be worth a look into?
