After being without a cupra I decided to buy a Tdi 150 this time round! On my way home from picking the car up I noticed I had little boost below 2000 rpm. I decided to remove the turbo to inspect the vanes in the exhaust housing. Once dismantled I found the vanes were partially stuck but not as much as what I had thought. I also found the actuator to be defective as it held no vacuum at all! I brought a turbo cartridge from turbo London and a replacement garret actuator. I freed off the vanes etc and also cleaned out my inlet manifold and egr whilst dismantled. I have watched tutorials and read many forums about setting up my actuator and stop screw correctly but I am having a bit of trouble. I read that the actuator rod should hit the stop screw at 18 inches of mercury which I have converted to 0.6 bar. I set up what I though was correct whilst the turbo assembly was on the bench. I had to adjust the length of the actuator rod and also the stop screw. With the actuator bolted to the turbo the length of the rod was parallel to the lever on the turbo that controls the veins. I applied 0.6 bar of vacuum and had to unwind the stop screw to allow 0.6 of vacuum before the lever hit the stop screw.
Anyway I've reassembled the car, initially the car was a bit smokey (black) but just put that down to needing a good clear out. However in 1st gear I seem to have no boost at all? Can change into 2nd and with the engine under load it feel like the car wants to stall/ cut out. But if I dip the clutch and bring the revs up and then re engage clutch the power is awesome. If driven hard the power will be perfect but still smoke a bit. Also if on idle and you rev the engine, on over run I can hear the turbo trying to stall/ compressor surge. I brlieve the actuator rod and stop screw are incorrectly adjusted? Could anyone give me some advice please? I have searched forums and watched videos but would like to speak to the experts on here myself to answer any questions I may have.
Thank you
