Hi guys, basically the problem is,when im putting the baby in the back in a rear facing child seat, the rear seat belt doesnt seem to come far enough round to go all the way round the seat!

Its fine in the front with the airbag off but as soon as i put her in the back the problems start.

Now ive seen another Cupra round my way with it in the back so there really shouldnt be a problem, also the next door neighbour has no problem in there 307!

Im just a little concerned as the seat belt gets really tight and the lady proper stretches it around the seat,i dont wanna damage the seat or the belt!

Does anyone else have this problem?

We have a Maxi Cosi Cabrio and it was quite awkward at first to get the belt to fit. On ours we have to fit the lap bit of the belt across the baby seat but not clip it into the belt buckle on the car. Then we have to stretch the chest part of the belt around the back of the baby seat and then clip it into the car buckle. Also have to put the chest part of the belt under the sticky-out bit of the baby seat carrying handle on the side until its clipped in, then stretch it over the top of the sticky-out bit to secure. It makes sense to me anyway;)

Really the Leon belt is about two inches too short to make it an easy job. Would also depend on the make of car seat as some seem bigger than others.

On the other hand, fitting the seat into the Altea is a doddle as we can clip the belt into the buckle and then stretch the chest part around the back of the seat with a couple of inches of belt to spare. Doesn't hurt your back either as you don't have to stoop over.:D

keep it in the front, rear facing and in the rear isnt a very good idea, if the child has any problems your not going to be able to see. We have been using a maxicosi priori xp system for well over a year, maybe 2 now and its never been a problem though its forward facing and will do hollie for a long time.

The belt is to small, like alot of other cars, but theres a easy way round it, all you do is fasten the seatbelt whilst attached to the base, so thread thro the lap part of the belt then clip it in. The other bit that secures the seat that wraps round the back just tilt the seat forward a bit baby in aswell, just to give you that room to hook the belt round, once you have done it a few times it will come with ease.
Me and my wife have no problems in doing this.

Is your baby seat Iso fix friendly? i.e is there a isofix base available for it go in to? If so get one and just clip it in to the isofix points in the rear of the car.

I've just bought a maxi cosy isofix seat&base (new off ebay £125 as oppossed to £180-£200 in the shops) and it's a doddle to use. Just position the seat on the base, click in and away you go.

Isofix baby seat

Superb. I am in the process of deliberating what car to get. I need a pratical and safe (but fun) 4/5 door car with isofix connections in the rear for my baby seat. The isofix connections are essential. Have you had any problems fitting the isofix base?

Puzzled,

The isofix base that I use (maxi cosy) is without doubt the easiest one I've used-Just click in and thats it.

If you want practical and fun then the leon cupra is the way to go or, do what I've done and get an Altea 2.0 tdi dsg and enjoy the extra space as well as performance and economy.

i agree re: Leon is great fun . i too use the isofix base in the rear and it is so easy its unreal.... click into iso and adjust leg, job done...... shows green lights to tell you its in properly too.... seat then just clicks on top and again green lights show its on correctly....

Onloy problem i find is the front passenger has to have the seat adjusted slightly to far forward and to upright due to the seat position...

Thats the main reason why I changed to the Altea...passenger seat on the Leon needed to go forward quite a bit to allow the isofix support leg to go down....no such prob with the Altea
