Axle stands on my Leon?

done a search and it came up with the location to put axle stands on an Ibiza, but could not find a thread about a Leon

I am a bit of a novice when it comes to stuff like this

obviously the clue is in the name, axle stands....place them under the axle right?

anyone have any pics on where exactly though, just scared with damaging the underneath of the car

Thanks

If you look under the car you'll see the main structural beams of the chassis running along each side of the car - about 1' in from the edge - I use these when using axle stands. The beam forms a sort of Y shape at the front which is useful as you can jack up from one of these and slip the axle stand in under the other one.

The official line from SEAT is that you should lift and support from the vicinity of the jacking points - ie. from the sills put unless you have rubber pads this isn't practical with a trolley jack and axle stands.

Don't be tempted to put the axle stands under the rear axle - SEAT specifically say you should lift/support the car from the rear axle.

EDIT - Haven't got a piccy - sorry!

That's what is says (i think)

Also I'm driving an old Escort back and forth from work at the moment while I renovate my new house and the Haynes manual for that says not to lift or support the vehicle from the rear axle. Perhaps it can bend if lifted from the wrong place?

im sure it says in the owners manual ? could be wrong

^^ :)

EDIT :

Interestingly, this thread suggests that the central chassis beam isn't suitable for supporting the vehicle - which I find strange - if you can't rely on the superstructure of the car to be load bearing - what is??? Obviously the jack's in a VERY bad place, but I've lifted and supported my Leon several time from the place this guy has his axle stand??

lift & support it on the subframe brackets....... this is the only place that won't dent your car underbody.

it's perfectly fine to lift and support on the rear beam as well (but clearly not if you want to get under the front!

Is the subframe the steel work under the engine and branching off to each wheel area. Any chance of a quick sketch Mork.
