Aura HU removal HELP!

Hello again chaps!

I've read the associated threads regarding the removal of this HU. I've cut up the credit card strips to about 5mm wide. I've been poking and prodding round in there for ages now, and can't seem to get the fecker to do a thing. If the strip is thin it seems that it can dissapear completely into the radio, if it's to wide, it doesn't get more than 1 or 2cm deep.

I've tried to "aim" for the centre too as suggested.

Can anyone help me with this. It's driving me mad and I need to get it changed today really!

Failing that, assuming I leave my aftermarket HU in permanently, can I forcefully remove (break) the aura out and been done with it?

Any quick responses gratefully received!

If the new keys for the aftermarket headunit fit in the holes i would recommend using them.

I struggled with a credit card but a few seconds of wiggling with Pioneer headunit removal keys got the unit out. Since I used them the credit card trick is easier now too as I know where to push.

You need to be gently prising at the headunit (being careful not to damage trim) whilst putting pressure on with the key (or credit card) to find out when the unit has disengaged. At the point where the key is inthe right place the unit will slide out really easily.

If you really struggle I would recommend getting someone else to help ie, they
pull on the headunit whilst you wiggle the key. It can make it easier this way.

I'll give that a shot. A las, I don't have the keys for the replacement HU either. It's coming out of my old car which was simply mounted with screws.

With the key/card strips, do I simply just push in and as central as I can? Is there anything In particular I should be feeling for when pusing in?

Also, is there an optimum width for the strips to be?

Thanks!

i used the keys from my kenwood one, and it literally took seconds. i'd save messing about with credit cards and take a trip to halfords.

man :(

Halfrauds closed now too! I'm right in assuming it's definately the 2 little slots un the bottom side of the radio. One Under the volume knob and one under the "dx main" button?

Right Ive dug my old unit out. Im going to try to find the camera to take a couple of pics.

The credit card will be engaging with the clip after sliding in only about 2 cm. Once you feel resistance you need to push whilst angling the strip of card in towards the middle of the headunit. Gently prise at the unit whilst doing this and that side of the unit should disengage.

And yes it is the two slots at the bottom of the unit.

The girlfriend has taken the camera out with her. I will upload some pics tomorrow on this thread whatever. From the underside of the unit you can see the clips and it will make it easier for people to see what they need to do.

I used the keys from my new HU (pioneer) & fiddled about for a about 5 mins (on the radio lol).

Eventually got it, but I must have blown a fuse or something when fiddling as the red light stopped flashing.......

Hey chaps. Yeah, sorted Danbo see further audio question threads!
Muchos thanks for the help though!

I went to halfords and bought the keys for "european cars" Came out in about 10 seconds :D

I've now got many more issues with the setup.

1) fitting the cables behind the HU
2)Weird aerial connection on the Leon
3)Missing Alpine mounting cage and trim ring

I'm guessing I need one of those presentation adapters for the aerial plug and will have to rip up the dash to get the cables to fit properly. Though it's tight now, so I'm dreading the thought of trying to get 3 sets of phono and a remote cable round there as well :(

I'm going to order the cables from Farnell. If anyone hasn't heard of them before, you should give them a try. Their cable pricing is excellent. Considerably cheaper than halfords and they''ll usually get stuff out to you next day

FUN AHEAD!

Thanks Chrissy!

I'll need that adapter suggested by Rob then!

Oh, when I was talking about Farnel cable prices, I meant cheaper than Maplins NOT halfords :)

EDIT: With that aerial adapter, I'm right in saying that I dont need the second amplified adapter do I? I've read some people getting away without it...

I didn't plug it in and it was ok, but went crackly in certain areas, but with the amplifier, I got a load of other stations it didnt pick up before, and the sound is always 100% perfect.

Worthwhile investment for £10

i never used a aerial booster thing before and always had trouble with reception on the radio, put one in when i changed my head unit and as chrisuk mentioned, reception is always 100% now. worth investing in one after spending a few notes on a decent head unit.
