Hiya guys, Ive got a standard OEM Sat Nav screen in my cupra. Im really desperate to hook my ipod up to it and just wanted to know how if at all possible. As far as i know it should be possible as theres a Auxiliary option for audio and video so im assuming the ipod can be hooked in via the back of the unit somwhere as an external audio device?

If it is possible any help on how i go about taking the unit out and what cable i need would be much appreciated. I aint too good with the whole sounds thing but instead of burning CD after CD id much rather hook up my ipod which has at least 500 songs on it. I know on most aftermarket head units its a simply plug and play on the fascia but i dont want to change my double din screen as it comes in handy with it also being a Sat Nav.

Any help would be much appreciated guys, i havent got a clue on what leads i need if its possible and how i go about taking out the unit to get to the back. Id much rather give it a go myself then getting an audio specialist to look at it. Thanks in advance guys, cheers!

If it does have an external AUX input then'll you'll need a 3.5mm - 3.5mm "headphone" cable, you can get these from any Car Audio store. You'll then need to run the cable, assuming the input is at the back of the unit, through to the glove box and operate your iPOD from there. Alternately you'll have to drill the dashboard and feed the cable through.

Cheers Jay dude, i thought that was the cable i needed. Got one of them going from my laptop to my hifi as it goes. Also will there be access from inside the glove box to the back of the head unit? Id much rather get through to it via that than drill any holes, thats an extreme. Either way am i right in thinking i'll have to still somehow get the unit out in order to get access to the back?

You might need to take off the gove box lid for easier access and depending whether or not you have a CD changer, will be made easier for you as you can follow the changer lead round to the back to the head unit. You will probably need to remove your auto-changer too if you have one and then refit it once the lead has been fed through. You will also need to take the head unit out, if for nothing more than to check that it actually has a 3.5mm jack input on the back, if it doesn't then you may as well scrap this idea. I am afraid I have not played with one of these double DIN units before so I can't tell how to get it out. Check for any slots along the bottom, top at sides of the unit that look like they need something pushed into them, these might be the release holes to detach the unit from the cage.

Thanks by they way, I really appreciate the comment. I pretty much have OCD with it but i'm not worried, as long as it's going the right way :).
