Audio Controls Cable

Hi Guys and Gals,

Please help a fellow Leon owner in distress. Since I have had my Leon MK2 (Reference Sport with almost all the FR Mods) the multi function steering wheel doesn't work (the controls for the standard Seat MP3 headunit).

After a trip to Gwent VW Audi and the steering wheel being removed I am told the cable is not there and I need the cable. They cannot source it.

But here's my problem I cannot get the cable anywhere I have emailed every scrappy i can find on ebay that's scrapping a leon and a load on google not one can source it. Spoke to my local dealer who was very helpful but said the cable is unsourcable and Seat UK said it was not advised due to safety and the airbag.

Anyone got any bright ideas where I can get the cable from. Within reason I am prepared to pay good money for one.

Really would love to get this by Wednesday as dropping the car off to get cruise control fitted along with a service.

PLEASE HELP :) :confused::think:

Thanks for reading :)

Well if the cable is not there i would be complaining to SEAT , i am sure all models that have the volume controls on the steering wheel work.
Worth a phone call mate even though its out of warranty.

Doesn't sound like it

Unfortunately I don't have a working copy of ETKA anymore, but it sounds like the dealership (may) have found the pt. no. for the cable and just can't get hold of one :(

Just a point to make - you probably won't be able to get the cable from a scrap car without taking the whole dashboard loom.
Example - SEAT sell a CD changer cable you can fit to base model Leons to put a changer in the glovebox. On higher spec Leons (and nearly all Toledos) this cable is integrated into the main cabin loom which is all wrapped up with that sticky felt tape - removing just the changer wiring is a PITA!

I don't know I bought the car Nov last year with the FR steering wheel done....

If I could find a scrap car locally I would take it out myself... I think it's too much hassle for ur average scrappy :(

TIIEWL any good with German?

You will need one of two cables depending on your airbag having one or two connectors however you will more than likely also need a new steering wheel control module to make it work. It is a common mod to add a MFSW to a Golf/Octavia the same will apply for a Leon I would have thought.

If you have a single connector for your airbag the part number is 1K0971584C which as your car was built before 2008 is the most common one it is around £30. I am almost certain you will need another steering wheel control module which is around £120 part number is 1K0953549BK however you should check what part number you have fitted which is easy if you know someone with access to VCDS/Vagcom (part numbers in both links of controllers that work with a MFSW and the ones that don't)

* this is all going by the assumption the Leon has the same wiring as the Golf which it should but don't hold me responsible if it is not !

Dangerous Dave you are a legend :)

Do you know what the other part number for the harness is if it isn't 1K0971584C???

Sorry if I've missed it on the articles but I can't see any other references.

I spoke to my local VW dealer and they can supply 1K0971584C for £30 very handy as I am having cruise control fitted tomorrow by Gwent VW Audi (VW, Audi Specialists)and they may need to change the controller for that....

If you can supply the other part number I will buy both just in case :)

Thanks again :)

The part number if you have dual ignitors on the airbag is 1K0 971 584 L, unlikely on your car that this is the cable you need. It is easy to check if you have one yellow connector on your airbag just now it will be the 1K0 971 584 C cable you need I wouldn't waste an extra £30 buying both. You also need to check what slip ring your car has all UK Golfs have the right one but it may be different on a Leon.

Just thought I'd let you guys know that this is the wrong cable and unfortunately I have not been able to locate the correct cable.

If anyone would like to buy this cable 1K0 971 584 C please get in touch as the stealer will not take it back.
