got in the car this morning and the clutch pedal was not returning properly.

i pulled it upwards and it kinda felt like it snapped back into position, so i thought nothing of it and drove the car down the road.

next thing i know i put my foot on the clutch and it sounds like something snapped and now the clutch pedal goes down and stays in the down position, u can pull it up and it stays in the up position and it doesn't feel as though anything is attached at the other end.

i always thought these cars had hydraulic clutches, so i'm assuming it's the pedal box?

is this gonna be an absolute bitch to fix??

it's been taken to a garage by the rac.

Plastic clip probably?? White in colour...

Clutch design on these was done by a 5 year old!

Mike

at the end of the day, the big question is, is this gonna be a bitch to fix and is it gonna cost me loads?

It sounds like its either the pedal box (may see a little plastic white clip around by your pedals) or the clutch pedal has snapped

I had the pedal box go on my first cupra and it was done under Warranty, they didnt really want to do it as its a fiddly job and IIRC can be quite expensive! On the cupra i have now my clutch pedal snapped and it cost £176 to repair

You need to make sure that whatever it is they do a double weld on it to make it stronger as dodgy welding seems to be the cause of both things going

the top of the pedal, it snaps and the clutch cylinder rod comes through thus breaking the white clip.

Mine been done 3 times already.

Thats what i had one mine, its probably been caused by a dodgy weld! Make sure they do a double weld on the new ones backplate bit

right, just got a call from the garage saying it's ready.

they are charging me £90.

that is for a new pedal, fitting, and new clutch fluid.

could have been worse considering that the pedal on it's own costs around £27.

Y do you need new fluid????

I did mine all in one night. Took the pedal off, welded the pedal back up, painted it so it looked brand new then fitted it back to the car all in one night.

All i would add is to replace the spring on the pedal as it never feels the same after, think it stress's the sping when it snaps

I assume yours is an Ibiza? My pedal snapped in my Leon and was welded up for about £70. But as others have said, it doesn't feel the same afterwards and the pedal rests higher than the brake pedal. Hopefully I can just change this spring then to sort that out.
