Area to check - chaffing pipe work

Thanks to Bora on the Leon 2 thread, as he posted originally:

I have just checked my aircon pipework after a post that he placed on the Leon forum and have the same issue.

My car is an 07 Altea with 11k miles.

Basically, at the front of the engine bay you can see a large upward looping pipe from the radiator area. Across the top of this pipe is the cable for the bonnet release. Also with the bonnet release cable is a plastic (ribbed) tube which holds a set of wires. This plastic protector has chaffed into my aircon pipe. I've spotted it relatively early, but it definitely needs sorting. Thought you should all be aware so that you could check before any further damage.

Hope the info helps.

Regards
Al

Mine had this too - I thought it might be just a one off but sounds like it isnt.
Its worn quite a groove in the piping, a good one or two mm deep.

Easy enough to sort, best to check!

Checked mine last night, if I checked the right pipe, I didn’t have this problem.

Did have it on an old 205 for the coolant pipe, cheep solution after burst pipe 2, was to cut a chunk of the old pipe out and wrap it round the new one, replace it when it got worn with another piece of the same old pipe! Probably not the most practical and not the best method, but did the job!
