Are Leon's injury prone?

Hi all.

Since my one month on this forum, I have been reading avidly and have noticed that quite a lot of things go wrong on Leon's albeit they may be small problems which cost next to nothing to fix such as...

Failing coilpacks
MAF sensors
Water leaks

Now I will be buying a Cupra R and must admit I don't know much about how a car works or what everything under the bonnet does. I will be going to the Cupra R from a Mazda MX5 which, in my 4 years of ownership, only had one problem which was a failed electric window which was fixed for £60 in 30 minutes. Normal stuff such as draining the waterholes I do myself once per year which involves sticking a sharp object in two holes under the car.

My greatest fear is that the Leon will be too much of a handful for a novice like me. Does this mean I should be looking at other cars or should I still go for the Leon? For example, I don't want it breaking down on me in the middle of a drive as this would terrify me.

So seriously, how many problems will I encounter per year?

Cheers - Cobraman2007

Remember that this is a forum where people come to ask for help. Nobody comes here to post 'I've had my car for a few years and it's been great' as that's boring and pointless. Instead, people come here to say 'why is it doing this?'

Plus, the three things you list are three of the main problems the Leon suffers with, but there really aren't many more. Coil packs, sensors (MAF and Temp mainly) and leaks are all you really need to worry about. The engine and rest of car are otherwise very solid, reliable and dependable :)

Also, you'll struggle to find another car that doesn't have common problems. Every car has them, every brand has them! The Leon is far better than most of it's rivals :)

these are "common" but ive never had any happen to me
there are ALOT of cars represented on this forum, so they are common to the car-but not persistantly common faults that everyone finds

Another thing to bear in mind, is a lot of cars on this forum are modified. And whenever you modify a cars engine you are asking it, and all it's components, to work beyond the limits they were designed for, which adds stress.
